Posted: 1/20/10 at 8:05amLast I had heard Streisand wanted to produce, write, star, and direct this. Had not heard about Liza. I say if this is what it takes to get Babs to direct and sing again in a movie then do it.However, I think it is way too much work for her these days.I see Hollywood giving it to a younger star and make them to look older.Either way, this will be the next ruined Hollywood musical. Only thing they need to do to complete it is offer the directing gig to Joel Schumacher.

I think either one would do an adequate job. Whether or not I'd go see it is another matter...

Posted: 1/20/10 at 9:42amThe status of this movie has been "announced" for at least the past six years or so and has had so many different names in that rumored slot. I honestly wouldn't worry about it too much.

Posted: 1/20/10 at 9:43amThough I have to say, ever since "Arrested Development" I can't look at Liza without seeing her stumbling and falling over from vertigo.

That page is not correct. The SUNSET BLVD movie musical is something Webber wants very badly, however it's been a decade-long battle to get it done. And it's dead right now.
DEFINITELY not with Liza. She is in no condition to take on this kind of a film role.
In the past, they've talked the project over Glenn Close, Barbra Streisand, Tom Cruise, Hugh Jackman, Martin Scorcese, Ewan McGregor, and Liza Minnelli. Minnelli was in talks back in 2004. Babes in 1996.

Posted: 1/20/10 at 10:58amQuite frankly I started this thread 'cause it seems incomprehensible that THIS MASTERPIECE of Film PERFECTION could be done "differently" or "better". Imho, can't be done...(nobody today has THAT kind of star power - entire cast...). Who's gonna play Max, for instance?
#9Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
Posted: 1/20/10 at 11:24amI think a lot of people had suggested Anthony Hopkins as Max.

Posted: 1/20/10 at 11:25amI could see Ewan McGregor in it.

Edit: nevermind, it was on last night.

Posted: 1/20/10 at 1:32pmOh, this rumor has been going on for at least a decade.

Posted: 1/20/10 at 1:52pmI read that ALW wouldn't have anyone other than Glenn Close in the lead.
