Couple of things:
1. Has anyone been to this program and can you tell me about your experiences?
2. My dilemma: I am poor. And also, this spring break I am supposed to be going on a trip to Dubling, Stratford, and London to do lots of theatre things. I have been waiting for this trip for 4.5 years, and the only thing I have to pay for is my plane ticket, about $600, and any souverniers I want to buy there, plus my passport. So I figure about $1000. But the Northwestern program costs $4300 and I have no idea how I could do both. This is the only summer I could do NU, but should I postpone my trip again? HELP!
If you want to pm, im, or e-mail me for more info or some ideas, that would be okay too. But I really need all the input I can get.

I've heard ok things about the program.
Search through the summer camp threads and you'll see other major programs (OCU, NYU) which you can probably afford better. I know OCU's Performing Arts Academy has financial aid and many scholarships.

I'm actually planning on attending NYU for college... I'm applying early decision and auditioning in November.
A couple of bonuses to the NU program: I just finished working with someone for 5 weeks who's teaching there this summer. Someone else I have worked with in the past went there and then also attended NU. It's close to me, because I live just outside of Chicago.

i know people who haev been there and its amazing, and it has a really good list of alumni. they also do a good job of getting financial aid to those who need it. But its also really competitive to get into. it also depends on what you are looking for though. because not everyone who gets into the theatre program gets into mt. the mt portion is a two week extension. the first five weeks are mainly straight theatre, except you can take electives in dance, and other things related to mt. it seems to be a really great program, and one of the best available.

I am headed to Northwestern next year for theatre and the people that I have talked to who did the Cherubs program with the MT extension LOVED it and said they learned so much from it.
I didn't do it (I was at the 6 week CAP21 pre-college MT program) but from what I hear, if you get in and can figure out how to make it work financially, it is an amazing program.
I'm not planning on entering the MT extension. It's another $2000 and I'm planning on majoring in straight theatre in college.
As I said in my first post, one of the members on faculty for this summer worked with me recently and said he would do whatever he could to get me in the program and get me as much financial aid as I need, by talking to the woman who runs the program. Also I'm a straight-A student who works at a theatre, so my prospects are good for getting in. It all comes down to money. I'm looking into scholarships for summer programs through my school as well.
It looks like I'll be choosing NU over the trip to England, as much as I hate to postpone the trip. (Though I see it's better to choose between two great things rather than two bad things.)
I'd still love to hear stories; anyone who's been there or has heard anything. I really hope this works out.

I was a Music cherub.
Best five weeks of my life.
Don't pass up the opportunity, it's fantastic, and definitley worth the money.
I remember reading that they give limited financial aid, when I looked into the program.
I both went to Cherubs and then continued on to major in theatre at NYU (early decision too), so i think i can answer your questions.
Yes, the NHSI cherub program is a spectacular program that was no doubt life-altering for me and the many other who attended some years ago. Many of us went on to NYU, some to NU, and other all over the country. The classes there are incredibly intense and equally worth it. The productions put on in the end are top notch and the facilities are excellent. I couldn't give this program a higher recommendation. And lucky for you, i know for a fact that they offer some very hefty financial aide packages to those that apply. So I would encourage you greatly to go for it. You won't regret it.
and best of luck with NYU. Also something id highly recommend. PM me if you like for more info.
