I think Catherine O'Hara should do God of Carnage.
Is this turning into a Mel Brooks production: giant mounties, beavers, flying moose, people in canoes, dancing girl maple leaves? Audience now wearing moose antlers. Oh, and there are lumberjacks, too!
I love that they are just perpetuating every single stereotype that the world already has of Canada.
Its like the Radio City Mountain Top Olympics Spectacular.
I absolutely loved it! LOVED it. Over the top and fabulous!
BUT -
I simply cannot believe that NBC cut away from showing the Closing Ceremony to air the new Jerry Seinfeld show. They said they'll be 'back in an hour' so we can see the rest of it (they will record and show later). I am disgusted.
While it makes absolutely no difference, as I am not a Nielsen 'family', I refuse to watch that show. Now or ever.
The Olympics deserve better. The viewers deserve to see the ceremony in it's entirety.
From the NY Times 'live blog':
N.B.C. Pulls Plug
Apparently the closing ceremony is no longer being shown on NBC or its sister channels. Here’s what you’re missing: The ceremony has morphed into an all-star rock concert, with the athletes invited to descend onto the stage and sway to Canada’s best-known entertainers. Nickelback performed first, followed by Avril Lavigne (she gave the crowd a demure “merci beaucoup” upon leaving the stage). Now Alanis Morissette is performing the song “Wunderkind.” It’s a pretty neat scene. The athletes and the “Youth of Vancouver” (those performers with snowboards who opened the ceremony) are mingled on the stage, waving their arms over their heads, back and forth. Next up are performances by Simple Plan, Hedley and Marie-Mai.
I did the same. I am NOT watching 'Marriage Ref'.
What a disappointing way to end such a special two weeks.
Who the hell's in charge of this at NBC?! What an ass!
Our fingerprints don't fade from the lives we touch.
Puppies are babies in fur coats.
Tinfoil...The Terrorizing Terminator
It's insane.
I know they want us to 'sample' the new show, but I have a feeling this will backfire. Big time.
Golly I'm gonna have to write a fan letter to CTV for their coverage- minimal cutting away and always to an Olympic theme plus their "I Believe" song. Thanks guys for making me appreciate what I've got! Merci!
Un frigging believable! They cut away for this crap? And they are making us wait until after the local news to see the rest. This really stinks.
Complaints to NBC can be sent to this e-mail address. I got it from their website and just sent mine.

Well Jane2, thank you for starting this thread!
It was fun checking in and chatting with all of you for the past 2 weeks! (Especially the past 4 days while I am confined to my apartment!) We must do it again for the next Olympics!
I agree. Hats off to Vancouver. This was a great Olympics! Now, I'm looking forward to London! Summer Olympics 2012.

I heard they cut it off to change the sets for the concert?
No, they cut it off to show The Marriage Rep. Once it cam back on after the news, the bands played right there on the stage in front of where the orchestra was. I waited and watched the last hour. For parts of it they cut away from the acts to interview athletes on the floor. (They cut away from Morrisette which ticked me off!) Yahoo's front page has an article on it and a ton of responses. The only reason I hung in there is because the Olympics aren't over, for me, until that final montage over the credits. it is one of my favorite parts.
So my favorite moment from the Olympics is when Bilodeau won the gold and hugged his older brother with cerebral palsy. my favorite commercial was the P&G commercial where all of the little kids were Olympic Athletes.
I loved Alanis Morrissette until she came up with a song that mispronounces "Wunderkind". It's like singing a thank you song entitled "Murky Bo Coop".
uncageg, that was a very nice moment. My favorite moment was Shaun White winning the gold medal in the Snowboard Halfpipe. I've been a fan of him for years. He is just leaps and bounds above the competition, constantly pushing the sport to new and higher extremes. The gold medal was his after the first round. In the second round, he busted out the highly anticipated Double McTwist 1260. He could have played it safe and/or did absolutely nothing in round 2 and he still would have won. Instead, he did that massive trick and got an even higher score. I was so happy that he won!

I love Shaun White. he has his own halfpipe here in Silverton. He was most definetly the most personable of all of the atletes. It was really fun watching him have fun! And do great!
He was very charming when he was on Oprah last week.
