So I'm guessing when Canada wins womens curling gold- THAT sport will be dropped too.
Bummer.

Posted: 2/26/10 at 8:29pmOne event being dropped has not much to do with who dominate the game. It's about how many people participate the game and the competition pool. Baseball and women's hockey simply cannot attract enough countries to compete.

Posted: 2/26/10 at 9:43pmThey probably will win the women's curling which will give them the most gold medals...let's hope the USA can come out these Olympics with the Most GOLD medals and the MOST medal overall. I think that would be a record.

Yea!
Joannie Rochette is giving an interview now...I guess it might be that I was initially pulling for other girls or something, but after reflecting on her situation I'm really starting to draw something from it!
I'm happy that she was able to compete her best at this competition...really her best of the season and get an Olympic Medal.

Posted: 2/26/10 at 10:54pmSo, I'm late to the party, but I just watched the women's free skate. I'm so thrilled for Rochelle for medaling. Asada landed the triple Axels, but had some glaring mistakes and simply didn't come anywhere near the artistry of Yu-Na. Yu-Na delivered the most beautiful Olympic performance I've ever seen. Honestly, I thought it was stunning from start to finish and may possibly be regarded as legendary. I think the last time I was floored by an Olympic performance may have been Yamaguchi in 1992.

Posted: 2/26/10 at 11:14pmI liked Sarah Hughes in 2002 better than Kristi Yamaguchi in 1992...not to take anything away from Kristi. Her big combination in 1992 was the same as Kim Yu-Na's in 2010.

Posted: 2/26/10 at 11:26pmbrdlwyr- I am with you. If a Korean or Canadian had placed their hand on a fellow racer nothing would have been called. Hell, other skaters have pushed and tripped their opponents and nothing has been called.

Posted: 2/26/10 at 11:27pmSarah Hughes' was inspiring! Especially after she landed her last jump and she's jumping and twirling all over the ice as the music crescendoes for the big finale. I'd been rooting for Kwan, but I came away from those Olympics a Hughes fan.

Canadian men's short track speed skaters come through: Gold for Charles Hamelin and bronze for Francois-Louis Tremblay in the 500m, a wild race that saw two skaters go down in the final turn and Apolo Ohno (who finished second) get disqualified. Then the Canadian men win gold in the relay.
Canada presently has 10 gold medals--most of any country.
If only the Canadian men's hockey team can hold on to the 3-2 lead over Slovakia... they'll face Team USA for the gold on Sunday. Less than 2 minutes to go!
==========
Read some of the comments above and... speaking of disqualifications... the Canadian announcers were saying that the official (Australian, I think) who disqualified the Korean women's short track relay team they other day (who finished the race first) has received death threats. He was supposed to officiate tonight, but they're keeping him under wraps.

2002 rematch! This time in Canada's backyard.
After second intermission I thought the bronze game would be so lifeless with Finland having a major chip on its shoulder for that embarrassing opener against team USA. Props to Slovakia for making it a game. Not sure how to feel about this from a Canadian perspective. That 3rd period was not a profile in courage. If I were Babcock I would be irate at the complacency.

Posted: 2/26/10 at 11:47pmCanmark, the Australian referee received thousands of death threats. Also, a Korean man has been arrested for threatening to blow up the Australian embassy in Seoul. Obviously, they never received the memo that it is only a sport.

Posted: 2/26/10 at 11:57pmIt seems the Koreans are big on death threats. Didn't Apolo get threats from them during/after the Salt Lake games?

Posted: 2/27/10 at 12:01amI can't wait for the hockey games on Sunday. Holy crap Canada played really bad in that 3rd period. I hope Slovakia gets bronze because they deserve a medal.

Does anyone know what Canadian will carry the Olympic Flag at the Closing Ceremony...should it be announced? I have a feeling it might the Mogul's skier Alexander Biladeux, who won their first home-soil medal...but I would like to think they would give that honor to Joanne Rochette.
I would also hope that she is awarded the Olympic Spirit Award too.

uncageg, it already made the news that followed the broadcast on the East coast.
ETA: It's probably on the net already, too. Gotta love technology!
