Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) will leave the hall of the Democratic National Convention in Denver and deliver his acceptance speech at nearby Invesco Field at Mile High, quadrupling his live audience, the party announced Monday.
Matt Burns, communications director of the Republican National Convention, responded: "Not surprisingly, Senator Obama and his fellow Democrats are more focused on stagecraft and theatrics than providing real solutions to the challenges facing our nation. A change of venue for a political speech isn’t the kind of change the American people deserve or expect."
Translated in plain English that means "Man, I wish we had a candidate that could draw 75,000 people! We're going to have to put blow up dolls in the last ten rows when McCain talks."

Instead of "change" we were given a crowd

I think Obama's acceptance speech should be an event like LIVE AID. DO a concert that lasts all day. The money goes to his campaign. Have stars and singers, and reunions, and anything you can dream of. Show it all over the world! Oh and 75,000? Not enough! We need 150,000 minimum!
Seriously, sour grapes from the GOP. They can not deny their guy is not the one they want. I heard something interesting on a local radio show that what if the Republicans nominate someone else at the convention? I know its unlikely and I know its an extreme "what if", but still I think they are that desperate it has probably crossed their minds.

I think you are right, romantico. It could be a kickass celebration.

I got a personal invitation...sort of...
For a five dollar contribution, I might be one of 10 lucky supporters flown to Denver to be part of the event and meet the candidate back stage. Which I suppose isn't any worse than being one of the first five callers after they start playing "Jessica" and getting to watch what's left of the Allman Bros play live while seated in folding chairs on stage.

Posted: 7/7/08 at 3:16pmFortunately, we can offset the carbon footprint with McCain's event. I mean how much energy can a percolator and a crock pot of Swedish meatballs use?

Posted: 7/7/08 at 3:20pmIf it is filled to capacity, there will be more than 75,000 people after they put in field seating. It is free to the public and they will let us know how to get tickets within a month. The stadium is within walking distance of the Pepsi Center.

Just like Bill Clinton did in NYC. Does Obama have any original ideas?

Posted: 7/7/08 at 4:06pmI doubt it. Even though they are close to each other, there would need to be security and there are a few interstate highways to go under or they would have to cross over the Platt River. Not an easy walk for a big group of people like that. But people do park at Pepsi Center and walk up and along the interstate. A lot use the shuttles provided.

You have an extra zero in the title. 750,000 is a medium-sized city.

How about a 'We Are The World' type anthem to coincide with this Obamathon concert. I'm thinking Giants stadium and maybe we can get Bob Geldoff to organize it. The Dali Lama will attend as will the Pope and the Queen of England (no, not Sir Elton John) Fireworks, worldwide coverage, and every entertainer we can find.
I think someone had better steal my idea fast!
