Obama touring with Ex Gay

I have met Donnie several times. He is a good friend of a co-worker. He's a nice man in a business I have no interest in.

However every time I hear his story and hear how he is (or is not) processing it, all I really hear is that he is another Ted Haggard train wreck et al, waiting to happen.

Sadly it is just a matter of time.

And this is too bad because he could have been a leader, but he is a follower.

Obama retorts to The Advocate and makes the excellent point that the shoe is on the theoretical other foot now. We are trying to force him to be divisive out of respect for our beliefs. At the same time Obama has been consistent to this day with his belief in the rights of gays and lesbians (although we still cain't get married)...

But it's true. We are ignoring the whole lot of good he's done for us, and he's stood up to communities of hostile faces for what he believes in. Just because this homophobic ex-gay is on his tour doesn't mean Obama is necessarily promoting his values (and consequentially will undoubtedly be forced to address exactly how he feels on the subject).

Also, it's gotten him a lot of attention when he wasn't able to get it before. To be frank, I HAVE heard a whole lot more about the gays from Obama than Clinton--and didn't this Donnie guy perform for the Clintons way back when?

John Edwards is a tool. Stay away.

So he'd be cool traveling with a white supremicst, too, as long as he went on record that their beliefs didn't jibe?

And nothing irks me more than the "If you don't support their bigotry you're just as bigoted as them" crap.

I like Obama enough. If he won the nomination, I would not have a problem voting for him. He is not, however, my first choice. And his assertion that there is no better candidate on gay issues is wrong. There are at least two better candidates: Gravel and Kucinich. Now...we can discuss how people don't think they have a chance in hell, but Obama didn't say he was the best of the top-tier candidates.

I also think there is a difference between an anti-gay minister and someone who is an 'ex-gay' who is 'counseling' teens away from their homosexual desires. Frankly, I consider that kind of mental abuse as harmful as the rape McDurkin says formed his sexuality.

If you don't support the KKK's beliefs, does that make you as bigoted as they?

PS - The answer is "Of course not!" because you can't use Jesus to explain away your racism the way you can your homobigotry.

*sigh*

I really do wish that Kucinich had a chance.

Ditto...
