And..I loved Jeffrey Lane's insight that although they knew they wanted Norbs for the role of Freddy, they had to be "sure" and auditioned other actors, all of whom pushed too far with the role.

The beauty of Norb's performance is beneath the wildman, you see someone with a heart and someone who does come to care about someone..

Did anyone else listen to/see the nominations being announced? (The major categories were announced live on WCBS-NY).


Congrats to all the DRS nominees--wish Greg Jbara had snagged a nomination, but it was a very crowded Featured Actor field. Christian Borle didn't get one, and people who saw "Spamalot" told me he was the best thing about the show (other than Sara).

Would LOVE to be at DRS tonight --smartpenguin, will you try the lottery tonight to be around that energy?

I listened to the audio feed this morning.

Yay for DRS! I'm also happy about Matt Morrison and Kelli O'Hara, Sutton Foster, Marc Kudisch, Erin Dilly. I thought Raul or even Cheyenne could get a nomination, though. And no Christian Borle...wow.

The live feed mentioned that there will be a "Meet the Press" event for the nominees tomorrow, so hopefully we'll see some pics. The Tony Web site will be putting up video clips from tomorrow's event soon, too.

smart penguin and all...I hope someone sees DRS tonight!

I am really confident Norbs will pull through. We'll see how the Drama Desk awards go, but I can't see Beach or Azaria being much competition (does Azaria even sing much in the show?)

I think the momentum is behind Norbs--it's the kind of breakout performance Tony voters love.

I don't know if Chrys has seen the noms yet, but she'll prob. be disappointed about Raul and Christian...but happy for Sutton and Marc.

Azaria does not sing at all, Beach I can't see winning and Curry is totally waisted in his role. But with all those big names out there I just worry, I'm a worrier.
The momentum, the performance, and the accolades are all in Norbert's corner though! YAY!

I just watched the Sardi's clip, that was awesome! Yay, Norbs. And I was really interested to see John's, glad Norb got to poke fun at it!

Hi ya'll! Well, *ahem*, let me start by saying that it was obvious that Norbert would be nominated but it's so nice to see his name announced on tv. I had to let out a joyful giggle when I heard his name, as I did when I heard Sara. If you didn't know, I adore her! And I'm just so stupified as to WHY WHY WHY Christian Borle wasn't nominated??? He and Sara are the best things about Spam.

While Hank is very funny, he doesn't sing. At least DHP has the Jew song but Hank speaks his few musical lines. It's cool to see Tim Curry on stage but he doesn't do anything great with his role. While I think John is very funny, Norbert totally steals the show away from him. And I haven't seen La Cage, but I think that Gary Beach's nom was just a way to show him that people like and support him. I think Norbs got this one wrapped up with a bow but I'm not going to get too excited(well, maybe after I'm done with my oral presentation today).

About DRS going up against Spam in most categories, I'm a little worried because so many people see Spam as the *it* show when it's just hype surrounding the three lead *names* and a cult movie fanbase. I love DRS and I want it to eat Spam up but I just don't know how they will vote.

I am almost positive that Norbert will win that I'm willing to bet on it(if I were a beting betty) but I don't want to set myself up for dissapointment. And it would make me the happiest girl in the world if Sara would win! I am really rooting for Yazbeck to win best score. I think that he is a musical theater genius and the ATW needs to recognize that. Broadway needs him and I hope they show it after not giving it to him for TFM.

This is too long for such an early hour but I just had some nuggets I wanted to throw youz guysez way. :)

I was just thinking what a shame it would be if Norbs win was the DRS win, like in the OCC. Hugh won last year for his performance in an awful show, but DRS is a great show that deserves a much better outcome. I really hope that the Wing will recognize DRS and all the talent that put it together. Spam is not good enough to clean-up like Producers. Producers wasn't good enough to clean up like it did. No way in hell was the Producer score better than TFM, no freakin' way!

Okay, that's enough of my morning breakdown!

Take heart, guys..in 1998 Alan Cumming won for not only his first Broadway show, but against Brian Stokes Mitchell, who was a bigger "name".

I also think John will be quietly throwing his support behind Norbert winning, he just seems like that kind of gracious guy.

What a gorgeous night--hearing the nominations made me want to go into NY tonight and see something--

I agree with wendy. I hate to be this optimistic, especially since in most cases, I'm not--but I truly think Norbert will win the Tony. I am concerned that his win will be the only one major one for DRS, though.

I do like Tim Curry, but my god, if he beats out Norbert, I will freak. I like Hank Azaria as well, and I heard nice things about his performance...but hasn't he made it even harder for him to win b/c of his scheduling conflicts/absences?

I am thrilled for Sherie! As she's one of my idols, I would love for her to win. But her role doesn't seem big enough, for one thing.

I have a hard time picturing other actors in these roles, especially Norbert.
