I saw some people suggested Chris Fitzgerald as Freddy--I have only seen him in "Wicked"--what do people think of that?
I have suggested Jeff McCarthy and Tom Hewitt for Lawrence.
Christianne Noll or Kerry Butler for Christine.
Norbs--hey, there's no one like him..
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought some of the ideas were Weird (note: capital "W").
I agree with you SP, Norbert's range is vastly wider than most of the men who have played Fiyero and Roger. I can't believe someone mentioned Joey McIntyre! I wonder if they have actually seen DRS. And the Jason Alexander idea really threw me. I saw him in The Producer's and didn't care for him at all. I think he is completely wrong for the part.
I think the NPH idea is worth exploring. And I did see that someone mentioned Hunter Foster. I'm not too familiar with his work, and was wondering if he would be a good fit.

wendy: I only know Chris Fitzgerald from Wicked as well, so I don't know how well he would do with a role like Freddy.
Norbert is certainly leaving some giant shoes to fill!
Yes the Jason Alexander as Freddy suggestion was just Weird. But the Jason Alexander as Andre, I could see working.
I really think it is strange that people think anyone who has played the same role in the past can automatically play all the other roles that person has played. Hunter Foster and NPH are the two suggestions of real actors who could take the role new places, but I still am worried it could be a disaster without Norbert. It is a Very Difficult role to oull off because it is so delicate to balance the comedy.
I have only seen Fitzgerald in Wicked as well, I really have no idea about a role like Freddy.
Tom Hewitt or as someone on the other thread Kelsey Grammar would be an interesting Lawrence.
Norbert's shoes will be very hard to fill, indeed!
Well, I guess the only real answer to this impossible question is for Norbert Himself to tour! :)
(I wish!)
H.
Well, just to give you insight--some people on the other thread suggested Tony Randall or David Dukes for Lawrence (both were replacements for John in M.Butterfly). Tony has been dead a year, and David Dukes has been dead 5!
There is a thread suggesting that as well, I can see some pros and cons, but Norbert won't be leaving his kids unless he absolutely has too. I want to see him originate something else when he finishes with Freddy anyway.
But hey it might happen for you guys, you never know!
wendy: That is HILARIOUS (sorry, I meant to add, "and sad").
smartpenguin: I know, I'm just being selfish. I'm so excited to see what he does next. Especially (keeping fingers crossed) if he gets lucky on Tony night. It really seems as if there is nothing this man can't do. I am eagerly awaiting his next endeavor.

Wendy that was just Weird, sometimes I wonder if people actually keep up with theatre news at all. There were about 10 posts between the one suggesting Randall and mine giving the sad news that he had passed, which was pretty weird in and of itself.
Obviously people aren't as well informed as we are on this thread (wink).
I think someone on this thread (billgoatgirl?) has posted she has seen Chris F. at Williamstown summer theatre--maybe she'll weigh in on how he could (or could not) fill Norb's shoes in DRS.
haha, hooray for hubris, and self importance.
I'd like to hear about Chris F.
Hey--new pictures on broadway.com of the nominees reception..a couple of observations..
Gary Beach is very handsome
Michael S. and Billy Crudup from "Pillowman" LOOK like brothers
Billy Crystal is getting old
Norbs and Sherie--Priceless!
wendy: I love the expression on Norbert's face in the broadway.com pic!
I'm listening to DRS right now (Ruffhousin...) LOL. John Lithgow is great. :)
Speaking of which, has anyone gotten the OBCR just released? Amazon is so slow....
Alejandra
I'm still waiting for my official copy from Amazon. I ordered it like two weeks ago, and people who ordered it this week already have it, so frustrating. I'm listening to the OBCR too, it just went to "The More We Dance"
smart penguin: me too! I pre-ordered my CD and I still haven't gotten it. *sigh*
I started DRS again, it really is addictive. Now it's on Givin Em What They Want.
We discussed this earlier, but now that we know who the nominees are--John, Norbert, Sherie, Joanna--what will DRS perform at the Tonys?
As far as the DRS tour goes, I'm really excited. Out of the names mentioned, Hunter Foster is the choice I like most (even though I like NPH too). If Kerry Butler joined Hunter on the tour, it'd be like LSOH redux. LOL.
Alejandra
I did my usual DRS L5Y DRS now I'm actually listening to Les Mis for the first time in nearly forever.
I still think "Dirty Rotten Number" with some tweaks but could see them trying a cobbled medley.
Hunter Foster would be good but for some reason I just see NPH as intriguing I want to see someone who is less likely to have me thinking how much I miss Norbert (although that will likely be imposible)
smart penguin: I love your avatar!
I heart Les Miz. I haven't listened to it in awhile, but I love it. It and Phantom are the first OBCRs I ever listened to.
I'm checking out the other photo sites. There are some cute alternate pics of Sherie and Norbert from both the reception yesterday, and the Dirty Rotten Giveaway, on Getty Images. I just wish I knew how to take off the watermark.

Wire Image photos to be found in the link provided. These are fabulous and so adorable! I swear, the more time passes--as much as I access Wireimage for searches like this, and other favorite actors/actresses, the more I wonder whether I should cave in and get a subscription.

BTW, Chrys, there are also pics on Film Magic of Kristin and Michael Cerveris. *grin*

Very nice photos, Alejandra.
yes, Fuzzels has decided to totally shill for DRS today.
I know this is a Norbert thread, but there's a nice Q&A with John Lithgow on the BWW homepage. :)

Alejandra-Thanks for all the links, you rule!
SP-Did you say that some people have gotten their DRS cds already? Are they at the theater? I ordered it from Amazon but then cancelled and ordered it from Sh-K-Boom. I'm hoping that I'll get it today.
Those links are fantastic, thanks again!
Betty- A couple people on here have apparently gotten their copies. They have it at Tower and Virgin Megastore and Colony. They did not have it at the theatre the last time I was there, but they might by now. My copy from Amazon still has not arrived.
SP--I saw on another thread you are seeing "Bee" tonight? Let us know how you liked it--I saw it two weeks about with "DRS" for the evening show. For me , the standouts were JTF and Jose. Liked Dan Folger, but can;t understand all the accolades. And Celia was charming.
