WooHoo Norbert!
BTW-I'm not sure if this was mentioned before but did anyone see the LA Times review of the DRS OBCR?
"...we're mostly stuck with the likes of "Great Big Stuff," a pseudo rap number in which Butz's con man, dreaming of ill-gotten gains, utters a euphemistic word pairing so vile it's a wonder my CD player didn't spit the distasteful disc across the room."
WTF????
Here's the link to the article about Norb's win..(ok, it has a mention of the other winners, too..)
broadway.com story
Congrats to our guy! Hopefully the first of many!!!!
Really that review is ridiculous, Hedwig!
I just don't understand, and it makes me so angry when people refer to "Great Big Stuff" as a rap, reviewers need to do some research the thing is a Steve Martin song like "King TUT" and seriously if that is the worst euphemism that person has ever heard they need to get out more!
argh
ok no more ranting
More congrats to our guy!
Broadway Betty should be pleased about Ms. Ramirez' win!
smartpenguin: I hear ya. I'm dismayed at the small-mindedness of this reviewer; and he gave it 1 out of 4 stars while Spamalot received 3 out of 4. (But to his credit, he DID like "Nothing Is To Wonderful To Be True".)

Woo, congrats to Norbert! I am so happy for him. :)
The American Theatre Wing has updated its site. The DRS seminar with Norbs and Sherie is now online....woo hoo! CUNY is also broadcasting it at 5 pm (which is like, in 5 minutes!)

DRS seminar online
Just watched the ATW seminar--what a treat! Thanks, Alejandra for letting us know it was up.
Love the story Norbs told about going to the baseball game with John and his reaction about being on the Jumbo-tron.
And..........Norbs looks amazing in baby blue!
Yay! wendy, I just watched it too. That was so much fun! They were all so articulate and funny.
I loved the story about the Jumbotron too (and Norbert shrieking was cute too!). They spoke so highly of John, it was wonderful. Another favorite part was when David Yazbek told Norbert, "You're an important player on Broadway, so why can't you afford socks? They're only 12 dollars."
Hearing Sherie talk about the future of theatre was also fabulous. She gets so into it. And tt was so funny when the host said, "I assumed she was high-brow" and Jack O'Brien and everyone says, "oh, no, Sherie is very vulgar...." LOL!
Alejandra
My Realtime player was breaking up a little during that portion (the refernce to Sherie being vulgar), so thanks for informing me.
And yes, Norbs shrieking regarding being on the Jumbotron--very Freddy-like, I'd say. Did he say he has ADD?
The shrieking reminded me of Love is My Legs. :)
Yep, he said he had ADD (half joking, I guess?). That's the second time I've heard him say something like that. In an old interview (I could probably find it), he said, "I think I have undiagnosed ADD...."

Hey Norbettes! My computer has been a punk so I haven't been able to respond to all this exciting stuff. Yay for Norbs winning the OCC and his Sardis caricature! I love all these great pics of him!
Hedwig-Thanks for telling me that Sara won! I absolutley love that girl!
Since I couldn't be online, I was listening to the DRS cd all weekend and everytime I play Ruprecht I have a major case of the giggles cuz I imagine the performance. And I am loving Here I Am! Sherie is so talented, beautiful voice, just gorgeous!
I read Riedel's column on Friday and I can't believe that people think Yazbek's lyrics are "gross". I think he's one of the best song writer/composers working in the theater today and I feel so lucky to be young and going to the theater during his era.
Tony noms 2morrow! I hope they're televised, they were last year. I'm so excited, you guys have no idea!
Hi Broadway Betty! I'm so glad to see you back, computers can be so fickle! But it must be great to return to such exciting news for Norbs and Sara.
:0)
H.
Hey, Hedwig! Yes, it's nice to be back! Hugs for all! My home pc is still a punk, I'm at school right now and must get to class but I'll see y'all later.
Will the Tony announcements be televised out of a local NY station? Not sure, the official Tony site doesn't specify, but does not seem so..
Are Tony Award noms televised on network television, or only locally in New York??
In any case, it looks like the Tony official site plans to broadcast it online tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. So I'm going to try to watch that. :)
Alejandra
Tony Award noms to be broadcast online
BTW, broadway betty, your comment about being young and appreciating David Yazbek's genius is exactly what Sherie is talking about in the ATW seminar. :)
Alejandra
I've ALWAYS liked 45.

Just a short post:
I'm working late and as I came across this thread, I'm listening to "Dancing Through Life".
LOVE HIM.
Does anyone else love the part in "Dirty Rotten Number" where Norbs takes over from John and begins, "It's almost like religion, the need to take a pigeon.." His voice sounds so damn engaging on that song.. (and a healthy clip of him performing this exact song is on the ATW web site.)
Having seen the show twice, and then hearing what great affection Norbs and John have for each other, that song takes on even greater meaning, sort of a chance to tell the other how great "working" with them has been (in character as well as out..) is anyone following what I mean?
Welcome, bronte604! On the OBC recording, I really love the way Norbert sings, "gliding where turf is smooth...."
wendy, I do know what you mean. :) I had that same, giddy reaction when I heard Norbert and John sing Dirty Rotten Number on the Today Show. (BTW, I accidentally taped over this...can anyone upload it online?) When Norbert started singing, he sounded so confident, and it was great! I also loved the pause right before "it was a ball, it was a blast" because it made John laugh.
Now, knowing how close John and Norbert are, and how much significance the song has for Norbert and his character(which he talks about in the seminar)--the song seems even more special, for the reasons you say, Wendy. That must seem especially apparent if you've seen the show performed live (which I haven't). :) I also loved what Norbert said about the song "dignifying" Freddy, showing him as someone who's learned and come full circle.
Norbert is so articulate; he's a wonderful guest for interviews, seminars and the like.
