The text of the e-mail I jsut sent:

Mrs. Kern,
I have recently become aware of your hateful statements regarding homosexuality, comparing it to terrorism as a threat to our country. Although (thankfully) I am not a member of your constituency, I feel obliged to write to you and condemn your thoughts.

Thought I am not homosexual, I am a father to three young daughters. Should any of them tell me she is lesbian, it would not change in any way my love and support for them. My oldest daughter has friends who are openly gay, and I feel blessed that I live in a community that celebrates diversity rather than denounces it.

Clearly, ignorance such as yours represents a great threat to our country. Your statements seem even more absurd given Oklahoma's history with terrorism. Your background indicates that you were formerly a teacher; I can only take solace that children are no longer exposed to a woman like you.

Sadly, hateful people such as youself sometimes reach positions of influence. I can only hope the people of your district see you for what you are and remove you from office at the earliest opportunity.

I hope her gay son speaks out. People like this woman praise themselves as being good christians and good parents. I do believe we all have our right to an opinion however, as public official I feel she should be removed from office. Imagine if you substituted the word homosexual for Jewish or African American. I've said it before and I'll say it again society seems to shrug off this sort of thing when it comes to gay people. I have been emailing her office every day since Monday and I have STILL not heard back from her office.

The more we spread this around the more uncomfortable she is going to be. I would like to see a protest outside her office or house or even her church on Sunday morning. The more media attention and publicity she gets the better!

Good for you, Barbie.

I know there's something said for being respectful and polite in trying to change hearts, but this old bat's far too gone at this point--she doesn't even love her own son enough to have an epiphany--for a polite, heartfelt letter to change anything. Plus, she's probably getting so much mail at this point that she's not even reading it. Writing and sending a vicious letter is cathartic, so I say go for it.

well, she'll stop reading (if she even gets the email) at the C-word. That's the only reason to be respectful and polite. Once you go postal, people stop reading.

And also, and perhaps this is nit-picking, but I was told this by a college professor when I was your age.......people tend not to read a huge paragraph. They will read if indented and made into individual paragraphs.

Just saying for the future if you want these types of things read, that might help.

But Brava for writing, however we need to work on getting you OUT of that insipd political party ;oP

Why are u worried if she is going to read it or not? Lets take time off wondering “will she read this” I am not going to sugar coat any thing to make this woman feel that the e mail is acceptable. She didn’t sugar coat what felt about homosexuals… She started saying terrible things and yet we all still listened. I would be more likely to read a 3 page essay with no paragraph breaks than a boring fake couple of sentences.

as I figured...... You try to be nice about something, and they get all "I know it all in my 19 years" crap.

OK, let me NOT sugarcoat it. If you want people to read what you write, then you speak to THEIR level.
Do not expect anyone to come down to yours, which is exactly what you are doing.

You are ranting like a 4yr old, and it will get you nowhere with any intelligent person, but rather all the other 4yr olds will read it, which I believe is not your intention

SO, again.....if you want it read by adults, and taken seriously, then write it at an adult level. If you want it not read, or read by children, rant like a child.

As a gay man, you do me NO good by calling some idiot the C word. Perhaps it makes you feel superior and "tough girl", but it does the gay cause nothing. Frankly it may hurt it.

Learn how to communicate as an adult. Or if not, expect responses like mine and deal with it.

Foster, if I recall, and in my old age perhaps I don't...I didn't use foul language, I did use paragraphs, and if I recall wrote on (mostly) an adult level.
