Posted: 8/12/12 at 8:52pmOh, I dunno about that. Madness performing "Our House" into a marching band playing Blur into Pet Shop Boys doing "West End Girls," into One Direction into Stomp? That's exactly the kind of variety show line-up I dream of.

Posted: 8/12/12 at 9:04pmI've already switched to a fab assortment of Ed Sullivan shows 1966-67.

I thought it was pathetic. If I had known this was going to be an MTV retrospect of 30 years of has beens I wouldn't have watched it.
Annie Lennox was the only high point. But what I can't get over is...why wasn't Adele asked to perform?? She's the hottest singer on the planet this year and 6 Grammys to boot.

I'm kind of enjoying the insanity of it all.
And now we're getting into the moving part of the ceremony with the flag coming down and the extinguishing of the flame. I'm a sucker for ceremony.

I get the feeling the many people who didn't like it have no understanding of the importance of two of the most important things that happened since Britain last hosted the Olympics: The Beatles and Monty Python.
Also, Adele is fecund with child.

Posted: 8/12/12 at 11:13pmMy heart broke for Gary Barlow. The man just lost a daughter days ago, and he was singing "if you stay with me, girl" and "don't leave me now".

BUT, but, the SPICE GIRLS WERE THERE!!!
So who needs Adele?
GIRL POWER!!!
( OK MIDDLE AGED WOMEN POWER! -Even Better!!)

The silliness of Monty Python was a delight. The sadness of what the singer from Take That has gone through is just heartbreaking.

Posted: 8/12/12 at 11:18pmSo I'm guessing it's really mean spirited of me to be waiting for the afterglow to wear off and the country realizes they will be paying for this event until their grandkids are seniors?

It was all about my girls. I was smiling and singing along and I haven't done much of either recently. It was worth it for me.

Posted: 8/13/12 at 12:38amLoved the Spice Girls. And I'm annoyed with NBC right now. They decided to cut from their taping of the closing to the premiere of some show and the news and then showed The Who and closing stuff with the montage of moments. Did they really need to do that? I'm a night owl anyway, but my parents did not stay up for The Who, and I'm sure they weren't the only ones either.

Posted: 8/13/12 at 12:40amThey cut Muse, and Muse had the official song of the 2012 games!

Posted: 8/13/12 at 12:43am^ Seriously? I thought I heard their name and then thought I had just missed them perform. But hey, NBC is failing with shows right now, so I guess they figured interrupting the Olympics was important enough to get people to tune in to their regular programming.

The Olympic committee will probably take this video down. But seriously, they can have Jessie J twice?
Part of Muse's performance
#17Olympics Closing Ceremonies
Posted: 8/13/12 at 1:07amThey also cut Kate Bush and the second song in George Michael's set.

Did they show the Darcey Bussell performance?

Posted: 8/13/12 at 3:37amWait, there was a performance on the phoenix? The highlights were the Spice Girls, Jessie J, and Annie Lennox. I'm still surprised that Elton John never showed up. Would have loved to see Florence and the Machine and U2 show up.

and Ray Davies. My wife is livid.
Will Animal Practice become the most hated show since "Heidi"?

Worst ever? Pet Shop Boys, George Michael, Spice Girls, and Monty Python made it probably the best (and gayest) ever for me.
I am annoyed that NBC cut Muse and George Michael's second song. I guess I should have watched the live stream.
And there was a person attached to the phoenix??
Animal Practice was the worst. I think I got through 10 minutes. I feel sorry for the animals forced to be on that show.
