Hey, isn't it about time for a revival of SUBWAYS ARE FOR SLEEPING? They could have open auditions and cast real homeless people. That way they could reinforce the concept that these people could find work if they really wanted to, and they could get a meal and a shower, too. Everybody wins! Y'all get where I am coming from?

omg, sueleen, and degrade broadway by allowing these untrained amateurs to steal work from hard working professional actors? do you not think that there are plenty of actors out there who stink just as badly as some of these homeless people *cough* ethan hawke *cough* not to mention how they'd lower the standard of quality that we all are used to on broadway. i am ashamed that you would even consider such an awful idea. using actual homeless people, indeed! we'd never get the smell out of the dressing rooms!

I always give my extra change to homeless people. I can usually tell if someone is really bad off or just trying to get money for drugs. Sometimes not but oh well. A few weeks ago I saw a homeless man with no shoes on 6th ave. He looked very sick and someone gave him a blanket and he looked so happy about it, it just about broke my heart. I went into the nearest mcdonalds and bought him some food and gave him a couple dollars. Even though Im a poor actress, there are people who a dollar is much more important to than the bag of chips i might have bought with it.

Wojo's alive. Jack Soo died during one of the seasons (third?).... Didn't that lead to Wojo coming into the 12th?

Whatever happened to Charo?

I just got home from work, and granted, am jumping into the fray a little late, but honestly, I was pretty startled by some of the content of TheaterBaby's posts. Specifically, the "I don't always feel bad when I see a homeless person." comment, frankly, horrified me. I'm not saying that we all need to go around wearing hair shirts because there are people living in poverty, but really, the arrogance, callousness, and (shall I say it...why not...) stupidity of committing a sentiment like that to print astounds me. Time was when you could count on the college kids to stick up for the more unfortunate members of society. Not so much anymore. It really doesn't bode well for the future, does it.

A friend of mine at work has told me she wouldn't give money to any "homeless" person because she felt she was being taken for a fool and it was a sin to give money to a liar. "They won't use the money for food but for booze, drugs, what not." She said.

My point of view is this. If I give you a dollar, in good faith that you are going to do something constructive with it (like get yourself something eat) and you don't, the "sin" is YOURS not mine. I gave the dollar without question or terms placed upon it. It is YOUR sin that you didn't use it the manner intended.

I never feel bad about handing someone change or what ever I have to give at the time. Which of us is right, however, I can not say.

Another friend had a lady ask her for money. She only had a ten and told the lady she had to have five of it to give her kid for something at school. "That's ok, honey", the homeless lady said, "I can make change." And pulled a 2 inch thick wad of money out from her pocket! True story.

I prefer to do my charitable work through my parish. I bring non-perishablefood to mass every Sunday and it is distributed to people who are really in need of it.I never know if I'm being taken for a fool with the hardship cases I see on the streets of NYC. Besides, I never want to take out my wallet when I'm on the sidewalks of New York.

I don't want everyone thinking I'm a hard ass. I donate money to charities, I buy Christmas gifs for children who might not have anything and donate them, I donate clothes to the Churches and the Salvation Army. I've just had a few too many bad experiences regarding homeless people on the streets and in the subways that I do not need to share in order to validate why I don't always believe their sob stories. I'm sorry, but that's how I feel.
