I was riding the red line and minding my own business when one of "those" people came on board. You know the kind…you could smell him before he actually stepped foot off the platform, shoes tied together with rags, at least four layers of crusty clothes, unshaven, unkempt... one of those people who your heart breaks for even though you don't really want to sit next to him on a train. Anyway, he sits down, digs through his many overstuffed bags and pull out his reading material for his commute. I immediately recognized the smallish bright yellow paperback with the black print and could not believe this person had pulled out a not too used Samuel French script. He began to read and a great big smile crossed his face and I could tell he was really enjoying it. I tried, as casually as I could to see what script it was and could not help but grin as I read the title to myself. THERE'S A GIRL IN MY SOUP!!
He saw me looking and caught my eye and smiled at me and went right back to his reading.
It really struck me how theatre really transcends the classes and is a universal bond that we share with people we might not have any other contact with if it were not for the arts.
I don't know, I just thought I would share this with y'all.
