One Bad Night

If Joe Biden had a cold that affected his debate performance and it was just one bad night, let him prove that to everyone. One way to do it IMO would be to have a 60- 90 minute press conference and he can't call on just reporters his staff selects for him. BTW - today Biden made statement disagreeing with Supreme Court decision. He immediately left after statement and did not take any questions. Tell me one other POTUS in your lifetime (Democrat or Republican) that did not take a few questions after a statement regarding the Supreme Court.

Let me tell you, I knew things were bad when Biden's staff did not even trust him to do the Super Bowl interview in February. Usually, they are only 15-20 minutes long and there are a couple of "softball" questions about the game. CBS was the network doing the game so it was a friendly network for Biden. If you can't handle that type of interview, you are in major trouble IMO.

This is not Joe’s fault. I don’t really care how frail he is, I still believe he has adequate battery power left in him to do the job MUCH better than Trump ever could. If his health did fail over his second four years, no big deal, Kamala will step in. She is on the ticket, and is the whole reason we even HAVE a Veep.

I think it’s sad that it all comes down to how slick  and polished a candidate is. It’s all so shallow and a stupid way to judge who is the most competent. Reagan got in because he had a nice smile and his all-American good looks. I guess this is one flaw with democracy.

Also other Dem candidates should have challenged him for the nomination long before now. Just because he is the incumbent doesn’t mean he is entitled to the nomination. Just another example of irrational auto-respect for the office holder of President, deserved or not.

It is not his fault to grow old and have issues related to age. It is his family's fault for putting him through this when he is obviously not up for the job anymore. I am sure you have read reports that Biden is only decent between the  hours of 10am-4pm. Almost every event he does something embarrassing yet Dr. Jill lets it continue. Actually, Joe should have stepped down months ago and then you could have had Kamala run and see how well she would do with the voters.

Actually, Reagan got in because he was accomplished two term Governor and he ran against Carter who at the time was the worst POTUS ever. (nice man, horrible POTUS). Reagan will go down in the history books as a pretty good POTUS.

For a lot of US citizens, he will go down in history as the man who ignored AIDS.

"For a lot of US citizens, he will go down in history as the man who ignored AIDS."

Fair point but he will also go down as the man who ended the "Cold War" with the Soviet Union. Berlin Wall does not come down without Reagan's speech.

Zeppie, you're a dumb ass, every time I read your posts I cringe, alas you're not alone, I have siblings just as dumb as you. The whole country suffers.

"Zeppie, you're a dumb ass, every time I read your posts I cringe, alas you're not alone, I have siblings just as dumb as you. The whole country suffers."

Let's recap what I posted on this thread, please note what is so stupid.

1. I asked for Biden to have 60-90 minute press conference to prove debate was just a bad night.  You would think that would be good way to shut up people who were concerned by proving them wrong. Pick other reporters to ask questions which include from "enemy" networks.

2. Lots of media people were surprised Biden did not do "Super Bowl" interview, it would have basically been "softball interview and good publicity for his re-election bid.

3. I said Reagan got elected because he was accomplished two term Governor and Carter was horrible POTUS. Many people thought Carter was the worst ever at that time, now it is probably Bush (43) Or Trump.

4. I agreed with "Jay Lerner-Z" Reagan ignored the AIDS crisis but noted he was key to ending the Cold War.

Finally, you prove how juvenile you are with the name calling. Just disagree and act like you are a semi mature adult. Other posters like "Kdogg" and "Jay Lerner-Z" can disagree with me 90% of the time but do it without insults. Have a nice day.

I've long given Gorbachev most of the credit for this. I'm sure there was a lot of pressure to fight tooth and nail to save the Soviet empire or die trying; Gorbachev guided it to a mostly peaceful break-up, and I don't think there are many people who could have managed that. I truly think he was a special individual who actively worked to be in the right place at the right time.

SF and Zeppie… perhaps you should hold a summit in Reykjavik to settle your differences? :)

Personally, I’m not sure Reagan ended the Cold War. He gets too much credit purely because of the “tear down this wall” sound bite. Likewise, I’n unsure of giving Gorbachev too much credit either. He undoubtedly wanted to reform the USSR, but not end it completely. Things did NOT play out as he had planned, and many people actually blame him for allowing Yeltsin to turn Russia into the place we know today. He unwittingly set the scene for Putin and the oligarchs.

P.S. "Collapse - The Fall of the Soviet Union” by Vladislav M. Zubok is a great book on the subject. An account of events without any Western bias.

Ok. I think you are underestimating Reagan but lets just say they both respected each other and worked well together.

They both deserved credit. I think you should not underestimate the effect of this sound bite. It was a powerful moment with a direct challenge to the leader of he Soviet Union.

"SF and Zeppie… perhaps you should hold a summit in Reykjavik to settle your differences? :)"

I would rather hear Yoko Ono sing for an hour that having a summit with SF - lol. People like SF annoy the f***ing hell out of me. The superior attitude SF displays to people who do not agree with SF is just the icing on the cake. The name calling is just so juvenile and something people like SF do when they don't want to engage in a civil discussion. I did post a thread that I appreciated yourself and "Kdogg" always replying to posts I have made civilly even though we probably disagree 90% of the time.

IMO it is real simple on these OT topics. If you disagree with the post, reply and make your point like an adult. If you do not like my post and I am such an idiot, you can always not reply. I reported SF post to the moderators, let see if they treat SF like they have treated you. After the BS I had to put up with "Sutton Ross", I swore I would never let any poster get away with this type of nonsense again.

Let's start with your last sentence prior to what I wrote, something about the Berlin Wall dosen't come down without Reagan's speech. I'll find some more less than intelligent writings but I won't put too much time on it.

What was that part about Carter bring the worst President ever, according to whom? Were you alive? Carter  would have easily been reelected if not for hostages. Jimmy Carter was a great president in addition to being a good man. Also, if you were alive, you might remember the damage done by Ted Kennedy to his election. It's very easy to call Carter a bad president, because less intelligent people accept certain propaganda that is patently wrong.
