re: Oprah's NIGHT essay contest

Is it already over? Not that I like Oprah (at all), but in 8th grade I wrote a poem based on Night that everyone who read or heard it thought it was great. My Grandma even took it to her work and said somepeople who read it cried. So when I heard about this and wondered if it would be eligible. I guess not. I'm not sure if it's even still on my computer, anyway. If I find it, I'll post it for you guys.

What did the essay have to be about? The book Night?

re: Oprah's NIGHT essay contest

I think how the book is relevent today. I'm pretty sure the winner gets a trip to one of the concentration camps.

That's a bit random...
"It's a great feeling of power to be naked in front of people. We're happy to watch actual incredible graphic violence and gore, but as soon as somebody's naked it seems like the public goes a bit bananas about the whole thing."

re: Oprah's NIGHT essay contest

The essay topic was "why is Night relevant today?"
And the prize is something like 50 winners attend a taping of the Oprah show with Elie Wiesel. --They do not get sent to a concentration camp!

Then my English teacher lied to our class, that's just what I heard and was pretty shocked.

I know Oprah is going with Wiesel to Auschwitz for a special episode. Maybe some winners get to come along...

re: Oprah's NIGHT essay contest

Now that I wouldn't want to do. I would be insanley creeped out. By what, I don't know since I don't believe in ghosts..but still. Has anyone seen thosem movies where they have actualy footage of the concentration camps? We had to watch one in my English class and it was basically 45 minutes of dragging around dead bodies. To make my point, not a place I'd like to visit.
