Wish I saw this thread before now...
What a silly idea for a show. All of these minorities complain about how they are singled out in society and how they would much rather be treated like everyone else (which they are). And here, we see them separating themselves once again.
Do we need a "how I knew I was black" or "when I knew I was a Republican" episode too? Oprah will do anything for ratings I suppose...

442, once again, you prove yourself to be such a stupid ass.
Awww boohoo Jerby. Maybe you can write a song about me for your next cabaret performance.
As far as me being an ass, take a look at the two posts above yours. Notice how they, too, join in on the fun and are no more or less "controversial" than mine.
Don't be so touchy. It's pretty obnoxious.

oh very cute.
but your dismissal of what's going on in this country and the issues surrounding one's coming out, etc. are what's obnoxious and part of the problem.
Well, I dunno if you are gay or straight or bi or asexual, but you are clearly ignorant about the blatant lack of civil rights in this country and the enormous amount of hate for gays.
I think that seeing people in the media say when they knew they were gay is a good thing because many people still seem to believe that being gay is a choice.

*sends the cows to crap on 442's porch and car*
You're calling Jerby a cow? That's not nice....
i would never say that bout him he's too hot
Oh, 442, your wit is blinding us all please stop don't.

Wish there were some way to make you be African-American one day, just so that you could gain some perspective.
Your 'we-they' attitude is exactly what makes things so hard for us.
That said...
I'm watching the show now. It's pretty stupid in its appeal to stereotypes (i.e. 'knew I was gay because I loved Diana Ross'). It doesn't really investigate them. Of course, how much investigation could a show do in an hour?
At least Oprah is finally focusing on sexual identity rather than her usual "I'll feature the Queer Eye guys but not acknowledge their queer identities" episodes.

I did not know Oprah was gay.
"This an Anne Heche thing?"
Okay I know the next best topic for Oprah: UNDERSTANDING BISEXUALITY!
Clearly. I did hate how Oprah acted so ignorant about certain things--unless that's her way of helping the audience who does think that way make the connections "with her".
Right, what was more interesting to me was that the woman didn't seem to understand that being sexually attracted to a woman and men made her bisexual (nominally). Of course not everyone is educated on identity in the same way we are...
I wasn't clear on what "bisexual" meant until I was twelve. A year later, I was coming out to my mother as bisexual.
It just amazes me how ignorant people are of bisexuality when most humans are to SOME extent.

I couldn't decide whether some of them were supposed to be a bit satirical or not.
