The terse, no apologies young lesbian at the end with her teary mom was the most compelling. And her comment on having a crush on THE LITTLE MERMAID manged to be both glib, in the Judy Gold sense, and very poignant. People do know very early. It's not like coffee ice cream, something you acquire a taste for. I'm personnaly tired of Carson, and though I understand why he was there, as a media flavor of (last) month, I don't think his story or particular public profile makes a persuasive case for many teens who are struggling.

I had a crush on Alladin. I may have been in love.
I was all about Ryu from Street Fighter. :-P
Oh I so had a crush on Alladin...but I was 18 when that flick came out, so that's a bit creepy.
I knew I was gay when I first laid eyes on Matthew "Albert Ingalls" Laborteaux.
i was overly fond of jon-erik hexum in voyagers! and cover-up, as well as bruce penhall in chips.

442, i'm not sure if you can understand but one thing that separates gays from blacks when talking about minority groups is that blacks don't get discriminated against by their own family members.
growing up gay, i heard negative comments from my mom, dad and others since they obviously did not know i was gay at a younger age. can you imagine how hurtful that is for someone? this is one thing that blacks don't encounter being a minority.
also, even racist people are often careful to not make black jokes in front of black people. as a gay man, i don't have that luxury for people who are not aware that i am gay.
also, what should i say when in the course of a normal day people (bartenders, taxi drivers, shopowners, etc.) banter the word "fag" in front of me? do you think they would talk about blacks or asians in derogatory terms right in their face?
for those that are gay, how do you handle these situations? do you say something? are you nasty? or do you politely let the person know that you are gay and do not appreciate their comments?

Oh no...let's no do the "who is more oppressed" game. Cause, my homeless, physically and mentally handicapped black bisexual trangendered female middle-eastern french friend from north korea with acne and a missing front tooth wins this game all the time.
seriously, i'm not playing that game. i'm just pointing out something that most people don't think about or realize (i know i didn't).
no, touchme, it is not a contest. But, I find that there are many people who want to pretend that gays don't have a history of discrimination, nor face it today. And, the fact is that gays have indeed a massive history of discrimination. Would I dare compare it to slavery and segregation? Of course not! But, that shouldn't belittle things.
And, the fact that gays are beat up everyday in this country, both physically and ideologically creates the need for shows like the one Oprah did yesterday.

That show was a joke. Austen creswell or whatever the hell his name is the single most annoying thing they have ever put on television. Although, i did love Billy Porter.
Oh and I wanted to stab that mother at the end of the show.
I hated Billy Porter . With all the great role models out there she picks that queen to be on her show?

did you not see the queen sitting next to him?
Please. Oprah just needs to go away, for a long time.
Oh nice. And they wonder why we can't unify as a community and get things accomplished. Here are two examples. Lovely.

Yes JRB, i can't stand flaming homosexuals, it's true. Anyone who needs that much attention should be dealt with because the world would be better without the vanity and attention whoring.
and Now I'm late for math.
Actually..My above coment is stupid. I am very glad she did this show. Billy Porter just rubbed me the wrong way.
Zoneace, get over it! There will always be nelly gay guys. Stop projecting your own issues with homosexuality and image onto other people.
Is this Zoneace for real?

No this zoneace is for fake.
Yes, I can't stand attention whoring, vain, loud gays.
Just like I like can't stand attention whoring, vain, loud straights. The gay ones are just louder, and more vain and even bigger attention whores, so they bother me even more.
Projecting much?

ooh, psych 101 strikes again.
please. I'd kill myself that big of a queen.
Back to childhood triggers:
Any of the older folk here remember Russ Tamblyn (yes, pop of Joan of Arcadia) in the musical TV version of TOM THUMB? Made quite an impression on my wee mind.
My first crush was at age 4 or 5 on John Schneider on The Dukes of Hazzard. And despite crushes on boys (and girls), it wasn't FINALLY until age 16 that I realized my crush on my camp counselor at choir camp was a big ol GAY crush! So, I finally admitted it to myself.
I just finished watching that episode of Oprah (yay Tivo). THE MOTHER! THAT...WOMAN! She just killed me. She was completely unaccepting and self centered and you KNEW when she was trying to show how she "had no IDEA her daughter was gay", the daugther's face would just look disgusted. The mother was full of crap! The girl CAME OUT TO HER MOTHER AT 10 YEARS OLD!
I hated that mother.
