Tyra likes the gayest of the gay. How about that Jay last night with the ponytails and the chest full of flowers?? WTF???
re ANTM: miss jay wears a lovely corsage with a rose that symbolizes each contestant. he removes a rose each time there is a cut. i believe there is some medieval symbology at work here. or, he is just a freak. i loved his NAOMI HIT ME t-shirt.
Oh please. It's just an excuse to cover his chest with flowers.
No man should EVER wear two ponytails. EVER.

I believe at the point there is more than one ponytail, they progress to being called pigtails.
I believe pigtails are braided ponytails.
re miss jay: he looked like maryann from gilligan's island. was he wearing gingham or was i halucinating?
i love him.
Of course you do, Grrrl. Of course you do.

Not in the magical land of mid-Michigan where I grew up, Rath.
My best friend grew up there! It's never come up between us though...
He was a very disturbing woman.
Regarding the true definition of "pigtails"...
Some Serious Pigtail Discussion
Well, I'm just more confused than ever now.

"The same question applies to pigtails, the most common term for the gathering of the hair into twin ponytails (one on either side of the head)."
I feel slightly vindicated. At least now I have proof that I'm common.

The ringling brothers publicist on oprah's website is FINE :)
I didn't realize that Oprah was so wishy washy in her vocal support of gays. I hope she realizes that she has the power to change a lot of minds, and I don't think it would hurt her reputation.
I'm not really sure what her thought processes regarding her position and power to do things for the gay community are. Maybe she's been afraid in the past. I don't really know.

How about eaqual time for "When I knew I WASN'T gay"?
Mine: When, at age 12, I watched "The Wizard of Oz" for the sixth time in six years, and suddenly said to my self, "Wow - I just realized - this movie is really gay. The scarecrow, the tinman, the lion, the gatekeeper - they are like totally gay! And Judy Garland is kinda fugly!"

Oprah has been pretty open in the past on her feelings about homosexuality - that her christian faith allows her to accept the subject but she does not feel the need or desire to make it a topic of her show at any time. Only within the last couple of years has it been a topic of any kind, and today's show is the only one that I can think of that actually hits on it. I watched the show she did on transexuals with so much horror that I think I may have to sit today's out. For someone as educated as she prides herself to be, she really allows her personal opinions to color her show. I think it's probably best that she continue to avoid the subject - speaking of Billy Porter though - has anyone seem the spots he has done for LOGO network about being gay> They are wonderful!
"Minorities who are even remotely homophobic or put off by homosexuality baffle me."
There was a Performance Studies professor at my alma mater who specialized in scholarship on why African-Americans seem to be especially homophobic. His name is E. Patrick Johnson and, for homophobic black male performers (that's just how specific he gets), he has a theory called manifest faggotry. They have to act out an exaggeration of black male homosexuality in order to prove that they aren't gay while also, intentionally or unintentionally, betraying their real attraction to men. Very complex theory.
Another reason why African-Americans of the late Civil Rights era are homophobic is that the CR movement itself rested so much on Christian rhetoric (which we know generally isn't pro-gay) and they also feel that their sons and daughters have enough problems without being gay. This fear and desire for progress somehow manifests itself as a very general homophobia. Many other African-Americans I know are homophobic, out of tradition, but have yet to realize that their hatred is learned and irrational rather than natural.

My favorite answer to this question will alway's be Scott Capurro's:
"When I had a dick in my mouth".
he said it live on a radio show in the UK and was promptly banned from the airwaves...
"she does not feel the need or desire to make it a topic of her show at any time."
That's kind of sad considering how many gay people probably work on her show.
She often does shows about topics people dont necessarily want to face and then says "now you can't pretend you don't know about it"
It seems like she's been the one kind of avoiding things on this particular issue.
Billy Porter managed to be gayer in two minutes than most people are their whole lives.
"she does not feel the need or desire to make it a topic of her show at any time."
Yet her dog grooming adventures are sooo much more relevant.
I knew I was gay the first time I touched a vagina. I grabbed a Kleenex and called it quits.
It's a good show--watching now.
