Posted: 7/24/09 at 11:41pmShe is not a hooker... though she dresses like one near the end. And no, not a demon. Just someone who escaped from a mental hospital... at least they were creative... a demon is too cliche.

Posted: 7/24/09 at 11:43pmOh, the spoiler I read said she was actually a hooker. Although i suppose that could have been their way of saying she was a whorey little midget. Apparently the neckerchief is because he raging against the straight jacket left marks.

ok this is what I read on the IMDB boards...
****SPOILER ACCORDING TO THE SUPPOSED SCRIPT***
she is a dwarf that was abused as a child and then escaped the mental institute became a hooker(who the heck would want a hooker that looked 12, sick) posed as an orphan and TOOK REVENGE.
****END OF SPOILER***
I read that awhile ago and it might not be completely right.

I saw it and it was great...for that type of movie!
They say she is a dwarf...but it is really move of a pituitary gland disorder type thing.
BwayTday...unfortunantly I do believe there are LOTS of men out there that would want a 12 year old prositute.
As for Peter Sarsgaard...if you lust over him like I do, there are lots of scenes to choose from in the movie!

Posted: 7/25/09 at 1:59pmI had no interest in seeing this until the spoiler was posted. Just...damn! I have to go!
#37re: Orphan
Posted: 7/25/09 at 2:05pmAlso for only being about 12 years old Isabelle Fuhrman is an amazing actress...though not the cutest girl in the movie...that goes to Aryana Engineer, who plays the little sister Max!

Even though I know the "twist" I still really want to see this movie. However, I am under 17 and can't go by myself I am enlisting help from my cousin to take me.
Does this movie really WARRANT an "R" rating, by the way?
"That's a good point. Next time I pee on a Starbucks couch and throw straws and napkins at a barista, I'll just yell, "YOU DON'T KNOW ME OUTSIDE OF STARBUCKS! YOU DON'T KNOW ME AT ALL!" and that should do it. "-LizzieCurry

Posted: 7/25/09 at 3:56pmThe R rating is justified. The violence is almost ridiculous, and far more gory than you would think. Not to mention the sexual stuff through out, the R rating makes sense.

Posted: 7/26/09 at 1:17amY'know, I was on the fence about this but now I think I'm gonna have to see it. Revengeful dwarf hooker sounds like quite the plot twist. Could've sworn she'd be some kind of demonic vampire child that never aged and went from orphanage to orphanage on a foster family killing spree.

What I don't get is, "took revenge" against WHOM? The orphanage? Her last family? Her johns? The family who adopted her? The husband?
I don't see horror movies in general, and some smart-ass is going to say "see the movie" to answer those questions...maybe. This twist sounds dumb to me and I don't know who would dream up such stuff, so now I wouldn't go see it even if I did go to see horror movies!

I actually REALLY enjoyed it and I avoided reading anything about it, as I usually do with horror, before going.
I liked that throughout the film, they play with, and pretty much wink at, many of the horror cliches and movies in this vein, but at the end, they avoid the ultimate cliches by not making her a demon or something supernatural. I want to see it again now that I know the twists.. it is a lot of fun for me to look at all of the clues planted.
Isabelle Fuhrman turns in a PHENOMINAL performance in the the tital role. Just.. WOW.
As far as the commentary here on the twist and things that had leaked pre-release, Esther is NOT a hooker. I also don't recall any mention of her being abused as a child. She is a 33 year old woman from the Ukrain (I believe) who suffers from a hormal disorder that prevents her from aging. As a patient in an Institution in her home country, she was very violent, so she was kept in the straight jacket which, as said, she fought against and it left her with scars that she conceals with ribbons. After escpaing, she poses as an orphan and is moved to the U.S., where her killing spree continues. Her M.O. is to be adopted by a family, pit them against each other to force out the wife and seduce the husband. Anyone who gets in her way, she kills.

I really want to see it. Here's what my friend says about the movie:
"It was reallllllly good!!! Ummm not so much scary, rather suspenseful! But if you jump at the smallest things, then you might think its scary! Esther is a straight G throughout the whole movie, I dont care what anybody says!!!!"
Sounds good to me!

Posted: 7/26/09 at 9:23pmI haven't seen it but I heard the best moment of the entire movie is towards the end when (SPOILER) Vera Farmiga --who is very talented and should get a new agent-- yells at the orphan "I'M NOT YOUR F*CKING MOTHER!" and then kicks her in the face. Or something like that... (END SPOILER.)
