The indictment centered on statements that Mullah Krekar — the founder of the Kurdish Islamist group Ansar al-Islam — made to various media, including the American network NBC."

HuffPo is reporting that a gunman dressed as a police officer has opened fire at a youth camp in Norway.

It should be noted that it was political youth camp. It was the Social Democrats. I don't know if they have decided officially if these things were connected. It would be an awfully big coincidence.
The world is getting crazier and crazier. It's NORWAY for God's sake.

Mostly 15-16 year olds.
Sickening.
At some point, something is going to tip a little too far, and all hell is going to break loose.

PJ - maybe it's just where we are, but most (and I mean MOST) people are just going about their business as usual on a daily basis. Sure, they hear about things like this, and make comments here and there, but then they're right back to what every other day is for them.
When I say all hell breaking loose, I mean that doesn't exist anymore.

I shared this article with some coworkers and one responded "That's old news". I looked at him and said "Unfortunately, terrorism is never 'old news'". This shows Q's point of people just brushing it off as if it were nothing.

Posted: 7/22/11 at 4:50pmJohnBoy - it isn't so much what I think people should do right now, as it is I forsee a day coming when carrying on 'as we know it' simply isn't going to be possible - as in worldwide focus on combat, and nothing else.

I think some compassion is needed more than snark. I'm not saying we should all book passage to Norway to volunteer. But, sadly, this isn't just some event in a foreign country. Terrorism is a global issue and I think the "not my problem" attitude isn't the right approach.
I'm also not saying we should live our lives in fear of terrorism. Yes, we need to continue with our every day lives. But, there are people in Norway who have lost that. Children who won't grow up. Brushing that off as "no big deal" just strikes me as cold.
I guess I'm just saying we should spare some thoughts for those who have been lost - not only today but also in past events.

Posted: 7/22/11 at 5:31pmEris, I couldn't agree more. All I keep thinking about are those people in Oslo and how they must be feeling right now -- their world, like ours 10 years ago, has changed instantly, completely and nothing will ever be the same for them. Life will and does go on, but it will never be the same.

Posted: 7/22/11 at 5:41pmThe kids on the island had to hide and couldn't call anyone because they were afraid the shooter was tracing cell phone signals. I can't imagine what they were experiencing or what the parents of those kids were experiencing. This is Oslo. This is less than four hours from my home. My wife feel like I did on 9/11. I don't know what to feel.

Fascinating typo - stopped me in my mental tracks, actually.

This guy dressed as a cop and got on a boat and opened fire on a group of children. Their only crime was that he thought they were the future of a political party that he disagrees with. This is all speculation, but it seems like the only explanation.
Norwegian people are kind and welcoming. My wife said it feels like someone attacked the nicest family you know.
