...what sort of music does everyone enjoy? (This assumes, of course, that you *do* enjoy anything but showtunes. :) )
My taste varies a lot. Lately I've really been into emo (Bright Eyes, Death Cab For Cutie, etc.) I've also been listening to a lot of Tori Amos, The Shins, and this really great jazz band called The Bad Plus.

I listen to pretty much everything. I'm not a big rap fan though. I am a dance teacher, you can't just listen to one type of music or you would go crazy. I'm always on the look out for new artists of all kinds!!!
But...right now I listen to a lot of Ani Difranco, Idina Menzel, Tim McGraw, Jimmy Buffett, The Killers...I love it all!
i've been on a big Tori kick lately, too...I've gone back to Little Earthquakes for some reason. It was like, the soundtrack to my adolescence, and it's been strangely comforting lately.

I'm a big country music fan, both old and new. That's all we listen to in the car! Other than that, I listen to a lot of choral stuff... a little rock (not too heavy, I can't handle the screeching)... easier listening stuff like Josh Groban... hmmm, what else? Oldies! I like a lot of different genres!
I do opera, classical, I actually love liturgical/organ music (my mom's an organist, so I grew up on the old-school church stuff)... of course, there's a smattering of random CDs in my collection - Jewel, Billy Joel, Cher, Elton John... pretty random.
Kelly Clarkson
No Doubt/Gwen Stefani
Goo Goo Dolls
Jet
Maureen McGovern
Renee Olstead
Maroon 5
Dusty Springfield
Who can do this off the top of their heads? There are so many more which I can't think of so quickly...
Classical and instrumental such as Movie Soundtracks!!!!!!!!! Updated On: 3/2/05 at 12:38 PM
Tori Amos is God. I've worshipped her since Little Earthquakes and listen to her everyday. I also listen to a lot of PJ Harvey, Eric Himan, Ari Hest, Fiona Apple, Rilo Kiley, The Killers, Jonatha Brooke and U2.
I forgot Rilo Kiley. Jenny and co. have been in heavy rotation.
I am still unearthing the new Tori Amos.
Also, Damien Rice "O" is destroying me.
Fiona Apple- girl, it's been over 5 yrs since your last album!
Madonna- hurry up with your new album that early press has called "her best yet." We'll see.
Anxiously awaiting Coldplay's new album (so Chris Martin can go back to paying attention to Gwynnie and Apple and there's no messy divorce.)

Fiona has recorded a new album, but her label refuses to release it.

I currently have no show cds on rotation in my car's CD changer: Kelly Clarkson (BREAKAWAY); Black Eyed Peas (ELEPHUNK); Doobie Brothers (GREATEST HITS); JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SCORE - Bernard Herrmann); HAWAII (ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SCORE - Elmer Bernstein); and, an 80's compilation CD that I made.

Josh Groban, Michael Buble, Idina Menzel, Linda Eder, etc.
Why won't Fiona's label release her album? Is she being her usual, bratty self and therefore they are "punishing" her?
More info on Fiona. It's absurd!

Classical, Beatles, and punk/rock, with the occassional foray into country, blues, and even rap if the album is especially good.
Wow, that IS totally absurd. With the amount of non-selling garbage being released, you'd think they'd want to release the record of an artist with a bona-fide following.
Baroque.......oh my God I go ape for Baroque.
classical, opera......african and middle east music
Kraftwerk, Suzy Quatro, euro-pop, Hi NRG Dance, bluegrass (but not country)
I like everything, except rap. My favorite style seems to be alternative rock (like Jason Mraz and John Mayer).
Me too, Elphaba...Baroque and the Late Romantic period are my two absolute favorite periods in all of music. I'm working on a Locatelli/Vivaldi recording right now, actually. (Not that I'll ever finish it, the way my schedule's been lately...)
I'm also a huge fan of guitar-dyke music (Ani. woo.) and weird not-so-mainstream kinda stuff, like Rasputina and October Project.

My god, Jason Mraz and John Mayer are now 'alternative rock?'
What's that make Hootie and the Blowfish? Death metal?

Maroon Five and Damien Rice are at the top of my list at the mo. I like Pop mostly and some rocky stuff. I also like some old classics like Sinead O'Conner and the Eurythmics.

*snicker*
I like John Mayer, but he's pretty mainstream...
I love lots of different stuff, but I will always be a rock girl at heart! The Who is, was, and will always be the greatest band ever to walk the planet! I enjoy most classic rock, I love angry female music ala Alanis and Tori Amos in her Little Earthquake days. I enjoy teenybopper pop like Ashlee Simpson and Christina Ahuilera and Mandy Moore. And lately i'vve been on a Killers kick. I'll listen to anything with a cool beat!
