If you like teenybopper pop, but you like a healthy side of talent with it (Sorry, Britney...we're not talking about you. Go eat something), you should check out Vanessa Amorosi. I just discovered her, and I am freaking in love. Her voice! HER VOICE!!!! You've just gotta hear her to see what I mean. There aer some clips of her singing at http://www.freehostz.com/notes_and_octaves

I like a lot of rock, especially the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day, the Who, Bright Eyes, Pink Floyd, and Queen. Also, Alanis Morisette and Vanessa Carlton.
I love, love, love 80s rock: specifically Journey and Heart (who qualify over a few decades, I suppose).

Ben Folds,
Sarah McLachlan
The Flaming Lips
Beck
Coldplay
Whitney Houston
Melissa Etheridge

John Mayer
I have a pretty wide range of music. I love oldies (especially 60s doo-wop, and ESPECIALLY the Temptations!), the Beatles, early Elton John, Barenaked Ladies, John Mayer, Vince Guaraldi, The Raveonettes, Bic Runga, Cake, Lena Horne, movie soundtracks (especially John Williams and Yann Tiersen) and traditional Irish music.
almost anything... not a fan of rap or heavy metal... though there are exceptions.
Faves:
Shawn Colvin
Nancy Griffith
Wallflowers
Greenday
(that's all I can think of right this minute)
pretty much anything but rap/hip hop/r and b (however you want to say it) and country.

Jailyard, I've met Vanessa and she's lovely as well as talented. Good call!

I like anything. I'm more into RnB, Rap. I just can't take listening to pop singers trying to sing. It kills me.
I love me some Alicia Keys.
And I also love rock, easy listening.
my tastes are so varied but i don't listen to country or most rap (exceptions mos def and the coup). At the moment ambulecnce ltd, u2's the joshua tree, elton john, guster, the clash, howie day, aretha franklin, adam pascal, ben kweller, rufus wainwright and elvis costello. Oh and so many more!

Classical in the vein of 19th/20th "let's paint a picture/tell a story" music, ballet music, my beloved "Noisy Russians," Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev, Borodin, Tchaikovsky, etc. Scott Joplin. Pretty much all popular music from ragtime to big band/swing. I listen to the "oldies" radio station at work and have rediscovered a fondness for The Mamas and the Papas, and Herman's Hermits. Most of my non-Showtune CD library is film scores and classical music. I know practically nothing about popular music of the past 10 years or so.
