Neither side actually wants to, is the thing. Expect to see this kind of thing happening for the foreseeable future unless Netanyahu has a Sharon-like change of heart and Hamas decides it wants to be a government more than it wants to be an insurgency.

Oh, I know. Both sides suck. I feel bad for the individual Israelis and Palestinians who have to live with this, but my capacity to give a damn about the conflict between both sides has never been lower.

Unless you believe in miracles, you might not have noticed that a miracle happened in the Middle East today:
A powerful American woman and an Egyptian man who is a member of the Muslim Brotherhood worked together to broker a peace between Hamas-led Gaza and Likud-led Israel.
Without the existence of miracles, none of that could have happened. Let's all be thankful and never stop believing that sometimes miracles happen--in the Middle East and all over the world.
