I do my best to respect other people's opinions, even if I strongly disagree (like in this case)- my problem with her answer was that she sounded like an idiot. Opposite marriage?
LOL GloryDays. I had the same thought. The fact that she expressed her opinion an inarticulately as she did coupled with the fact that she's become something of a spokesperson now just underscores how specious the position is.
I see it this way...
Beauty pagent 1960s... she was asked if state should follow other states who decriminalize interracial marriage...
and she replied...
I think marriage should only between whites and whites...black or asian people shuld not marry white people they should stick to their own kind. that's how I was raised!
Of course.. No one will make this statement now...because its STUPID, IGNORANT and INSENSITIVE!
its exactly what she said... I dont believe in gay marriage.. I believe in opposite marriage.. (or traditional marriage- we get it) This opinion will be viewed in 2040 as
STUPID, IGNORANT and INSENSITIVE!
and to quote that this country has a choice! that just send me over the edge. English might be my second language but I did understand the question perfectly and her answer is the most INCOHERENT and ILOGICAL statement Ive heard from a native speaker of the English language or is it just me? she's baffling...and nervous and her TRUE COLOR just showed up!

This is when I truly wish that all the haters and ignorant individuals out there spent some time in our shoes.
My shoes are way too nice for that.
Then give them your old worn out ones!! LOL

"No one's saying she shouldn't have given her opinion. It's just a dumb ass, bigoted, uninformed one."
I agree.
And although she has every right to express her opinion, she needs to keep in mind that people have every right to call her out on it. Two-way street.
I just watched her interview that took place on The Today show this morning. Yes, she's entitled to her opinion but it all amounts to someone who comes off extremely ignorant and puts her religious convictions ahead of rights of others. What a scary individual (and all in the name of her religion - her words, not mine).
She's spewing hate just like what's his name from Texas, only it's coming from a prettier package.
and that's my point! that's why I was upset!

My bottom line is: believe whatever you want. But what does that have to do with me?
Don't think people of the same sex should marry? Then don't marry someone of your own sex. Are we done?
If your understanding of your religion's demands is what determines your actions, have at it. But don't expect me to sign up.

Religious beliefs should hold sway within the confines of that religious community, not applied to the general population.
Separation of church and state. It's in the constitution.
i think you should have the right to shoot people you don't agree with. or at the very least turn them in to the dhs to be renditioned to bagram and waterboarded until they change their intolerant tune.
Only if their foreign, papa.
She and Perez are really werking this. I wish they would BOTH shut up.
He should have asked her opinion of Susan Boyle.

I'm a little weirded out that Perez is who's being held up as a representative in this situation. I know he's who started the ball rolling, but his follow-through is . . . well, less than exemplary.
what, q? anyone who doesn't agree with perez is clearly a total see you next tuesday and he should be credited with getting that word our into the light of day where it can be used more often against those bitches who deserve it.

Perez,
I'm confused. I thought you were on the TOLERANCE bandwagon. I thought you were for DIVERSITY. Yet, you were very INtolerant of Miss California and her views. Shouldn't you, if you REALLY believe what you claim to, be CELEBRATING THIS AS DIVERSITY?????
You're a hypocrite because you were intolerant, bigotted and judgemental of Miss California's views, when you should have been celebrating her views as the diversity that you CLAIM to stand for.
I think there's a NEW bigot in town!

Get thee to a spell checker!
Seriously, though, why should people have to tolerate discrimination against them? Would you tell any other minority group to do so?
Actually, as I understand it, separation of church and state is not in fact in the Constitution, but taken from a comment made by Jefferson regarding his interpretation of the First Amendment and from then on generally accepted. That doesn't make this girl any less stupid, though.

Why does every gay marraige argument on this site turn into "You're a bigot! No, you're a bigot!"
Shbrt - thanks for the correction.
becasue you're a bigot, pg2.
Not at all! I was always under the impression it was in the Constitution as well, but it's not explicitly stated, unfortunately.
