re: Pet Peeves

Automatic toilets. I guess it's not really a pet peeve, but I find them pointless and obsolete.

I'm also a grammar/spelling Nazi, so when people type improperly, I get...miffed.

People who say "like" after every word. -____-; I'm trying to fix this habit, too.

I hate not spelling things right...take for example, Liam. He is a bad speller and I hate that.

I agree with most of those already posted but also...

-guys who ask you out...multiple times and then DON'T CALL
-people playing frisbee...so actually people who don't play frisbee well

re: Pet Peeves

1) Thinking of my pet peeves (I have many) and then totally forget them when asked to write about them =/
2) Stage managers who complain about their job and don't do it, causing everyone to get in trouble
3) People who get other people in trouble for no reason at all

A most ingenious paradox.

re: Pet Peeves

Sidewalk hogs. For example, you've got one person walking north and three people walking side by side south. When all the people meet, the group of three doesn't budge. Where is the sole person supposed to go? Into the street? Up against a wall? Wouldn't common courtesy dictate that one of the group move aside to make room for the single walker?

Another pet peeve, lack of common courtesy.

Let's add lack of common sense. I'm not asking for folks to be Mensa candidates, just show a little common sense. A customer at work forced their memory card into one of the kiosks. Some of the pins inside got bent and is going to cost quite a bit to repair/replace. When asked what happened the customer said his card wasn't fitting right so he just pushed it in harder until it gave. Arrrrgh.

hrh-annette, I totally concur with your sidewalk comment (from someone who walks a lot in DC). That really is annoying.

People who stop their car in the middle of the road and get out to get money at the ATM. I witnessed this particular occurrence this morning on my way home from the gym.

Actually that should be categorized as "stupid things" people do.

When restaurants clear plates at the table when someone is still eating. Plates should NEVER be cleared until ALL at the table are finished with their meal.

Addy... I actually will tell them "please, we're not all done yet" when they try to do that.

Pet peeve, literally: people who do not clean up after their dogs. They give a bad name to those of us who DO. Especially at the dog park... we all use it, it's a great benefit to have these awesome off leash areas, and by not cleaning up after their pets they're jeopardizing the status of the parks (at least here where their status gets reviewed every few years)

re: Pet Peeves

People who come into the store I work at and who don't take out their iPod earbuds to talk to me. They just keep saying "what?" until I talk louder. SO annoying, and it's college, so EVERYONE has an iPod and I have to do that a lot. I just think it's rude - can you not take at least one earbud out for 45 seconds while I answer your question?

Also, people who constantly feel the need to have the last word, at any cost. I have a friend who does this, she has to have the final say on EVERYTHING. Sometimes I avoid spending time with her just because it drives me so nutsy. Of course, when I tried to gently hint to her about this habit and how abraisive several friends (not just me) found it, she got all huffy, "Well, I don't do it as much as some people." I say, "I'm not trying to pick on you, just letting you know that you may not realize how you sound to others." Her: "Well, you do it too sometimes." Argh!

Whoa, that totally turned into a rant, there. Sorry... back to your regularly scheduled thread subject...

re: Pet Peeves

- The no "thank you wave". So rude.
- The "Thank you wave" from someone who just pushed in front of you, giving you no choice but to let them in. I like to think of it as the "Please don't hit me wave"
- Check out people who let you stand at the end their line while they serve the previous customer only to, when it's your turn, say "Sorry, I'm closing".
- People who use "How are you?" like hello. Muffled and fast before launching into the rest of what they have to say without giving you a chance to actually respond.
- Kids who get all huffy because you ask them for ID. All sighing and "I'm 19!" (I'm an Aussie, 18 drinking age). And for that matter? Kids who get angry that you won't sell them alcohol because they're underage. It's the law!
- People who write an entire email without one capital letter or punctuation.

re: Pet Peeves

Thought of another one. People who say " Speak English, you're in America now."
I was born here and if I choose to speak Spanish that's my desicion and it really is not any of their business what I'm talking about.

Posters who make no secret of their disgust at other people's ass-kissing, but spend their time kissing the ass of an aggressive bully who also (apparently) happens to be a well-known writer.

I guess an easier way to say that would be hypocrisy.

A related pet peeve would be said writer's ease at getting away with constant personal attacks on other posters. Where are the moderators in this instance? If you're well-known, the guidelines don't apply?

1. Talking at the theatre, movies, ballet, opera, etc. Anything in that general family.

2. People who use incorrect grammar.

3. People who act like you just killed their entire family if you point our a grammatical or spelling error.

4. People who act superior to others for no reason at all, except to make themselves feel better.

I hate it when people (or songs) say, "I wish I was..." The correct grammar is "I wish I were..." Drives me insane.

re: Pet Peeves

Here are some of my Pet Peeves

*cleaning up my room
*Bob Marley
*my boyfriend won't let me borrow his ipod so I can get a good look at it and I can make my project with it.
*spiders
*Students I don't even know come up to me, act friendly, and ask about the previous relationships I've had, hoping for some dirty gossip
*Students accusing the white people in the faculty of being racial, when the dreaded 'n' word (I never use it...such a bad word) is said freely by the students.
*People who are involved with a relationship they want out of, but can't break it off because s/he is in fear of looking uncool.
*I'm unemployed
*People talking (loudly) during a movie or show

This takes the cake:
*The plastic covering on CDs and DVDs that are a pain in the buttocks to take off.
