Pet Peeves

What are your pet peeves?

Mine: people who don't return phone calls, people who pounce on me at work as soon as I walk into my office, people who interrupt me while I'm eating or on the phone.

re: Pet Peeves

People who use improper grammar
People who can't pronounce "ask" and instead say "aks"
People who make fun of others because they like Broadway and theatre
People who toss around the word "gay" all the time. (If I had a dollar for every person I've yelled at for using that, I'd be rich)
I have my books and my poetry to protect me...

"All I ask of you is one thing: please don't be cynical. I hate cynicism -- it's my least favorite quality and it doesn't lead anywhere. Nobody in life gets exactly what they thought they were going to get. But if you work really hard and you're kind, amazing things will happen." Conan O'Brien

Un-set clocks (VCR, Microwave, etc.) blinking 12:00.

And misuse of:

your/you're

its/it's

there/their/they're

lose/loose

momentarily (It means for a moment, not in a moment.)

re: Pet Peeves

I work at a fast-food place, and NOTHING bugs me more than when a customer walks up to the counter while having a cell phone conversation and doesn't even take the damn phone away from their ear when they give me their order!! I know it may not seem like a big deal, but it's just so rude that you can't hang up your cell phone for 2 friggin minutes while ordering food. Ugh.

Rude people in general are also a big pet-peeve. That's all I can think of for now!

Oooh, Ma, don't toy with us!! re: Pet Peeves

How could I forget:

People who pronounce nuclear "Noo-kyoo-Lar."

And those who manage to find a "sh" sound in the word peninsula.

People who turn every discussion into an argument; getting my mail late; people who get upset with other people for tossing the word gay around all the time (I'm not sure why that would upset somebody).

M_E- it drives me crazy because people in my school are constantly calling people "gay" as a substitue for "stupid".

re: Pet Peeves

I'm guessing here, but I think it had more to do with the context in which the word "gay" was being tossed around, i.e. as a derogatory, jr. high-style substitute for lame with no real homosexual connotations.

re: Pet Peeves

I'm on a roll: all those informercial spokespeople. I'm blanking on a name right now, but the guy who's on all hours of the day with his stupid, "set it and forget it" ovens, and that tacky *ss beyotch and her dorky sidekick with her ridiculous cooking gadgets, etc.

I think I might have to change the name of this thread to include, "who gets on your nerves"

Dottie, Ron Popeil!! Yes, he is AWFUL!! Now the "set it and forget it" gadget comes with this vulgar, phallic marinate-injector. Very dirty.

re: Pet Peeves

Thanks, grownupgroupie!!! Now who is that lady I'm talking about? She demonstrates that "all in one" cooking gadget where you can cook all three courses at once.

I know who you mean, and she's REALLY creepy...but I have no idea what her name is. She's like a career-spokesmodel for crappy devices.

re: Pet Peeves

I hope you're using the term "spokesmodel" loosely!!! She also has that kind of squeeky voice like that woman from "Poltergeist".

re: Pet Peeves

Indeed. I should have written "spokesmodel" with big quotes:)

Can't find her--isn't it sad that I'm looking?!--but here's our guy:

re: Pet Peeves

My biggest pet peeve is definitely when people (especially at high school) use "gay" as a derogation. Hate it. I've given many speeches in the hall and on the bus about it.

Another is bad grammar. I mean, I make mistakes sometimes, but at least I try. If you're getting "its" and "it's" mixed up when you're in ninth grade...no. I can barely comprehend that.

re: Pet Peeves

I just tried "googling" her and couldn't find anything, but I did come across a hilarious site which rates the different informercial products. One of the threads was titled, "Gadgets for preparing and destroying food." It also gave a blow by blow description of the infomercial.
