Old fogey here complaining again!
Next to the texting, I really hate that extra "uh" which is now added on to words. Like - "No-uh" and "I miss you-uh"
they even do it on my soap!

My two least favorite mispronounced words:
Jewelry - it's not jewlery!
Realtor - it's not realitor!

Posted: 4/28/09 at 10:38amJane, the extra uh infuriates me! My son uses it in the most whiny way when answering a question!

I am happy to say I have not heard the extra "uh" coming out of my kids mouths yet. I'm sure it's only a matter of time.

Posted: 4/28/09 at 10:44amYeah, I figured once it's on a soap, it's spread too far to contain it! haha, a little joke about swine flu. oy. sorry.

People still say"no-uh"?
re: Pet peeve of the day-that extra syllable#9

re: Pet peeve of the day-that extra syllable#10
Posted: 4/28/09 at 10:53amWow. I must have missed the memo that it was still 1994.
re: Pet peeve of the day-that extra syllable#11
Posted: 4/28/09 at 10:54amOther than the usual southern drawl some people have here, I haven't heard this yet either.
re: Pet peeve of the day-that extra syllable#12
Posted: 4/28/09 at 10:55amIt's rampant around here. I never heard it in 1994, though.
re: Pet peeve of the day-that extra syllable#13
Posted: 4/28/09 at 10:57amYet another reason why I'm not a huge fan of the southern accent. People around here tend to make one syllable words into two syllable words....I even find myself doing it.

Posted: 4/28/09 at 11:00amJane dear, 1994 was 15 years ago. Everyone was into ebonics back then.

I have a friend(ish) who's started doing that even in emails! She'll write "I didn't like '30 Rock' last night? I thought it was kind of lame?"

Posted: 4/28/09 at 11:19amWhy in the world would you remain friends with someone who thought "30 Rock" was kind of lame?

Nuclear<----nothing between the "c" and the "l"
Replacing "what" with "who". "You wanna who?" Not that cute, actually.
The chica glottal stop that was all the rage can stop now. "Di'ent" "Manha'en" "Buh-ens"

Mister Matt, I agree completely with the "Di'ent." And other variations. It takes much more effort to speak that way, so really, what is the point?
I hate when people say things like "who all was there?" Why can't you just ask "who was there?" The 'all' is completely unecessary.

I love when John Marshall says innermi'ent and ma-ha-an.

Or people who say, "Where is that at?"
Don't get me started on the suddenly rampant use of apostrophes to make words into plurals.
