Caught this last night and thought it was fantastic. A great piece of filmmaking that fires on all cylinders and truly embraces the culture and the people it depicts. Has anyone else seen it?

Calling it standard family fair in no way does it justice. It is a wonderful movie. Beautiful animation, great music. A touching story. Im not one to cry at movies, but I teared up. Not to mention a beautiful depiction of the traditions and themes behind the Day of the Dead holiday.

I think that's a little unfair. Inside Out came out just two years ago in 2015 and is regarded by many as one of their best films.
I wish they'd cool it on the sequels, but an "okay" Pixar movie still tends to be leagues better than most films.
I found Coco to be endlessly charming and beautifully rendered.

I thought COCO was pretty great, swell vintage Pixar work, if a bit overstuffed with plot turnarounds that bogged down the last reel. The basic thrust of the movie was terrific, animated with insane detail (sometimes way too detailed for my taste), but thrilling for most of its run. The simple physics of movement between the boy, the dog and that grandma character (the one with the shoe issues) was pure bliss.
HOWEVER--
Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to precede this full length movie with an ENDLESS mini-movie musical about the FROZEN characters at Christmastime?? That thing was interminable (there must have been at least 4 or 5 unique songs in it up to the usual hack standards of the Lopezes) and probably ran for 25 or 30 minutes. We honestly thought we had been seated in the wrong theater partway through the thing. I pity any parents of young ones trying to get them to sit still for this marathon.

Yeah, you bought a ticket to an animated movie and they gave you a bonus animated film for free. How dare they?
There've been endless complaints about the Frozen short and I just don't get it. Audiences nowadays would never be able to sit through a movie 60 years ago, when movies were preceded by a newsreel and a serial and a cartoon and so forth.

Vulture today just posted that Disney is pulling all showings of OLAF'S FROZEN ADVENTURE from screenings of COCO starting December 8.

I saw it. I enjoyed it. If you like Frozen (which most people do ... certainly the kind of people who would go see Coco), I have no idea how it can be considered a bad thing to get more of it, unexpectedly or not. I mean, we got a bonus musical! When does that ever happen? A 21-minute musical is by definition a short -- yeah, it's longer than the usual short that plays before a Disney movie, but it's a pretty standard length for short films in general, and extremely short for a musical (I wouldn't want to see a 5- or 10-minute musical -- that would be more like a music video). I actually enjoyed it more than most of the Pixar shorts (that one with the sandpiper was only six minutes, but it felt endless).

I thought Coco was simply wonderful. The visuals were stunning and the message was beautiful. I thought it was far superior to either Wall-E or Inside Out. It had the emotional highs of Up and the charm of Ratatouille. Easily one of Pixar's best. I may go back and see it again in 3D. It'll win Animated Feature and possibly Best Song ("Remember Me"
. And after my own tears surprised me at the end of the film, I'd love to see it snag a Best Picture nominee as well.
I get why some people were frustrated in the length of the Frozen short, seeing as how it was quite unexpected 9Especially those with small children or after-movie plans), but I really enjoyed it. It was a Disney/Pixar feature, so it didn't seem unusual to have a Disney short preceding a Pixar film (especially a Pixar film that opens with a new variation on the Disney logo sequence). Frozen 2 isn't for another 2 years, so it was nice getting this new musical short with delightful songs.

The Frozen short was fine, it was just too long. After sitting through almost 20 minutes of previews, to then sit through a 22 minute 'short' before the actual movie starts is too much.
When Coco did actually start there was a kid in my theater who shouted 'finally!', which prompted laughter from everyone cause we were probably all thinking the same thing.

Yeah, the short was fine, but I did long for the Pixar shorts that usually accompany the movie. They're usually really sweet and quirky.

I probably won't make it to see it until the short is removed, but was the 20 minute short in addition to the nearly 20-30 minutes of trailers that seem to precede movies these days, or did they reduce the number of trailers attached?

Not me. I rarely see trailers I like and I tire of them quickly. The only one that preceded Coco that I remember finding interesting was the new Paddington movie. You can google and play any trailer you want any time. I'd prefer the 20-minute animated musical over the trailers any day.

Have to say I hated “Inside Out” I wanted Joy to die , one of the most annoying cartoon characters in years...
I didn't hate it, but I wasn't crazy about it. I considered it an average Pixar film (which is still not bad at all), but then I feel the same about Wall-E and the Toy Story movies, which everyone RAVED over. My favorites are Coco, Ratatouille, Finding Nemo, Incredibles and Bug's Life.
That reminds me...Incredibles 2. That was the other trailer I liked.
