As we approach Tuesday, November 5th, 2024, I am reminded of some of the great (and not-so-great) politically-themed movies I have enjoyed over the years. One of my favorities, "State of the Union," will be shown on TCM on August 18th. It stars Angela Lansbury, Spencer Tracy and Katharine Hepburn.
I find both The American President and The Contender to be compelling political movies, even if I don't necessarily agree with all of their political viewpoints.
"KIsses For My President," showing on TCM August 26th. Released in 1964, it's the humorous (for its time) story of the first female U.S. President. And now, 60 years later........Kamala !!
"James Stewart himself was a devout Republican. Probably rolling in his grave. Sad."
Maybe, have no idea what his views were. Wonder what JFK would think of the Democratic party today, I bet he is rolling in his grave also. My gut feeling is he would not be anti-Israel like the "Squad". I doubt he would be for raising corporate taxes which Harris has mentioned. I bet he would be for enforcing federal immigration law and not in favor of sanctuary cities/states run by Democrats. Do you think JFK would have been for defunding the police? JFK famously said "Ask not what your country can do for you but what you could do for your country". Does that sound like a man who would be in favor of the government paying off student loans?
"MAGA TROLL ALERT !! DOING ITS BEST TO HIJACK ANOTHER THREAD"
Dude, you really are pathetic. Do you know how to read? I responded to Jay Lerner-Z's comment which "hijacked" the thread not me. He said Jimmy Stewart was big time Republican in his day and would be rolling over in his grave with Republicans of today. That comment had nothing to do with political themed movies. Note*** To Jay Lerner-Z, I don't mind you made comment but it seems to offend HG -lol. All I did was counter his comment with mentioning JFK and the Democrats of today. To the two posters who liked your comment, guess they don't know how to read either and comprehend my post was in response to another poster.
BTW - I thought I was such a despicable person that you would not read or respond to any comment I make on a thread. You once again show you are a phony and a hypocrite. Go back to your cheerleading.
Just for the record, I posted my favorite political themed movie (Mr. Smith Goes To Washington) earlier in this thread. In addition, I posted that I thought "South Florida" pick of "Lincoln" was an excellent choice. In other words, I participated with the topic of the thread and did not hijack it -lol. HG had no comment about "Jay Lerner-Z" hijacking his thread, wonder if it was because he was trashing the current Republican party. I turn the tables on Jay Lerner-Z and replied to his post and all of a sudden HG is outraged about "MAGA troll" hijacking his thread.
Ok, back to the topic of this thread. I will add another favorite of mine called "The Candidate" starring Robert Redford.
I hope we can all agree that RFK Sr. is surely rolling in his grave over the actions of RFK Jr. this week.
Anyway, another truly great movie is PRIMARY COLORS, directed by Mike Nichols. John Travolta and Emma Thompson play a thinly disguised version of the Clintons. Kathy Bates shines as always.
Beyoncé is not an ally. Actions speak louder than words, Mrs. Carter. #Dubai #$$$

Totally forgot about that movie, it was excellent.
An under-qualified Senate candidate wins. In the final moments of the film, a somewhat surprised and bewildered Senator asks one of his consultants: What do we do now?
"""An under-qualified Senate candidate wins. In the final moments of the film, a somewhat surprised and bewildered Senator asks one of his consultants: What do we do now? Are you watching, MAGA Vance?"
Wrong. Did you ever watch the movie? Redford's character is idealistic son of former Governor. He is asked to run and believes he has no chance of winning so enjoys sticking it to the establishment. Political advisor gets him to moderate his views when the race starts to get closer than expected. In other words, he starts giving up on his political beliefs. His father had stayed out of the race but then decides that he will help his son out and gets him meeting with labor union boss. Redford's character refuses the support of the labor union but what do you know, labor union still endorses him. Election night comes around and he wins. The "what do we do now" comment to his political consultant is not about experience. It is about whether he should follow his beliefs or the ones he used to win the race.
P.S. Kind of funny that you are "trolling" your own thread and replying to posts of mine that once again you said you would ignore.

MAGA Troll alert. Step away from its excrement. Its contamination is poisoning every thread it invades.
