I don't think Jews or Muslims have churches anymore than Catholics have mosques or synagogues.

"anyone know how theyre stand on this compares to the Jewish or Muslim churches? pretty sure some muslim churches (0verseas) consider it punishable by death "
...You should head over there and check it out. I'll pay for the plane ticket.

I'm pretty sure compared to reform Jews, the Catholics are still in the Middle Ages.
i dont know if its true, but on Homeland they had a gay muslem diplomat. Carrie and Saul blackmailed him into giving them info on a terrorist by telling him they would tell his bosses that he was gay and that they would stone him in the street for that.

Relevance in the lower two percentile there.

Sue does bring a good point up, about the need to separate religious law from civil law. I wonder how the Pope feels about that. I wonder what people at Jewish church do, too.

I saw an episode of "Hot in Cleveland" that touched on that point.

I think I saw a "Touched by an Angel" where Satan looked just like Obama.
I saw that too, Namo! And he was worshipped in a muslem church!

I was very disappointed the first time I watched "Touched by an Angel," because the title made it sound a lot sexier than it actually was.
Back on topic:
But like many of Francis’ more news-making statements, the real difference is less about the contents of his words, than in the direct, earthy style in which he delivers them, and the Church teachings he chooses to emphasize. “It’s the way he’s expressing himself, with great candor, that is surprising to people,” says John Wauck, a professor of communication at the Pontifical University of The Holy Cross. “Actually, the substance of it is nothing exceptional.”

Phyllis I tried to sell a movie about an orphan who gets molested by a beloved nun who runs a homeless shelter titled "Touched by an Angel." Lifetime WAS NOT interested.
I went to Catholic school for years, and I grew up Catholic. Now you couldn't pay me to step foot in a Catholic Church. The hypocrisy and ignorance is nauseating. And this really does nothing for me - he's in no way saying its not a sin to be gay. The Catholic Church has always said that they don't "judge" people, but that was pretty much all I saw going in at the churches and schools that I grew up attending.

Washington Post Headline (empahsis mine):
Pope Francis calls for inclusion of gays in society, saying he has no right to ‘judge’
People will really take any old crumb, won't they?
Also, from the WP artticle
Pecknold noted that during the news conference, Francis said he did not mention abortion or gay marriage before his trip to Brazil because he wanted to sound “positive.”
I just fail to see the excitement in this.

it is nothing new....he just "threw up" the same crap the popes before has said...in regards to gay priests....
I haven't been to Jewish Church since last Tisha B'Av.
Not to thread jack but the Christian Bris I went to at the Our Lady of Mercy Synagogue was awesome.
(I know Bris isn't performed in a Synagogue).

a more appropriate news headline is "CATHOLIC CHURCH FINDS YET ANOTHER WAY TO SAY 'HATE THE SIN, NOT THE SINNER.'"
I agree that the content re: the gays is not much of a departure from Catholicism 101--as understood by this Jew.
I do think, however, that a move to Catholicism 101--as a opposed to the rabid, ravening witch-hunt mentality of the current ex-Pope--is welcome.
What interested me most about the statement--as it is being reported--is the Pope's use of the phrase "who am I to judge?".
Given that he is--again, forgive me if I got hold of bad information at Hebrew School--God's Regent on Earth and understood to be 'infallible', his suggestion that it is not for him to judge other people is interesting.
If his flock would take that reluctance to heart--especially in light of the fact that none of them are deemed infallible--we'd be off to a good start on many fronts.

He judges other people. Just not judge celibate gay priests.

I agree. And that is what makes me continue to believe in the opportunity for change.
"who am I to judge?".
As Pope, he is the closet person on earth to God. but he is still a mortal man, he is not a God, and only God can judge. Not you, not me, not a President, Not an Emperor, not a Czar not a Caesar.
thats what i believe he means. it would be good if we all took his advice about other people
