Jules and Jim
A Beautiful Mind
Monster's Ball
Moonstruck
Mystic River
Nashville

Gone With the Wind
I officially hate Premiere Magazine now.
With one or two exceptions here, these are fairly brilliant films... and it makes me wonder what dreck they consider "good."
MMM I don't agree with most of their choices, but I find "American Beauty" to be extremely overrated.
I have seen about half of the movies on this list and I don't think they are overrated at all. I don't like Premiere magazine now.

Not only that, but it's really amateurish for a magazine that supposedly celebrates movies to put out a list like this.

If you actually read the article, the list came about as a result of discussions between co-workers at the magazine. Each of the films listed has a "rebuttal" from another co-worker at the magazine which praises the listed films. It's no different than this website. People here say something like they hate "OMIGOD You Guys" and others post their rebuttals. So, relax. The magazine is not saying these are overrated films. It's just a "discussion".
This is exactly the reason I don't read that rag.
The paper is also too thin...
I tried to whipe by butt with it, but my finger torn right through it.
I DO agree with a couple of these, but some of them are just ridiculous
I haven't seen all of the movies on the list, but I don't think the one's I have are overratted.

Fantasia, but no Titanic. Yeeeah, their taste is totally reliable.
I haven't seen of most of those movies. But that's no way to make up a list.
As much as I love Kevin Smith, I agree about Clerks. People act as though it's this amazing piece of work. I think the intriguing thing about this film is that it was made on a 27k budget(by putting it on credit cards) with unknown actors, a first time writer-director, filmed in a REAL convenience store and still managed to be an indie success. It does have very real dialogue, but it is pretty overrated.
I despise CLERKS. I think it's absolutely dreadful.

I agree about "Forrest Gump.'
I agree with Forrest Gump, American Beauty, Mystic River, and A Beautiful Mind.
How is Titanic not on this list?
I disagree with about everything listed.

Oh, DEFINITE yes to Fantasia. "Revolutionary" or not, I still fail to see the brilliance of walking broomsticks. And I'm still traumatized.

I adore Fantasia, but I was also the kind of deeply weird child who decides to become a classical pianist at age 6.
I ADORE Fantasia. I don't think the brilliance is -- or is even supposed to be -- in the animated stories themselves, but the use of the music to create those stories. That said, The Sorcerer's Apprentice isn't one of my favorite segments.
Heh, I want to watch it now.
I would replace GWTW and OZ, with SINGIN' IN THE RAIN and CITIZEN KANE. Otherwise, I agree.

'Overrated' is one of my pet peeve words- You like it more than I do, so I must slam the movie? What a stupid thing to worry about. What other people think of a movie or show is completely irrelevant to my opinion of it. If I like something I might recommend someone to see it, if I don't like a film you do, I might ask you why you like it so, but to slam a movie as "Overrated" strikes me as junior high-ish.
I guess I should read the article to see how they arrived at this list. I'm curious about Clerks-- certainly I've never seen it on a "Ten Best" list and as I recall it got pretty mediocre reviews. It must be really really dreadful to be vastly overrated.

If you read the introductory paragraph, it pretty much explains what they're doing - the movies were picked specifically because so many of them are considered great. Basically, it just illustrates that there's nothing that pleases everyone.
For me, at least half of those movies show up on my list of all-time favorites.

I thought my post already explained how the list was formulated. However, it seems that some people still don't get it and are just all about stating their outrage over the list. Try reading the article already!
so wait, Premiere mag jsut took a list of 20 of the greatest movies ever made and decided to title it the 20 most overrated movies ever? well i mean, that makes sense.

For me, at least, thinking something is overrated, isn't the same thing as not liking it. I think that the list does contain many films that are overrated. I also happen to like many of those same films. In a previous post I said I would replace GWTW, with SINGIN' IN THE RAIN. I really like SITR, but I believe it to be the most overrated film of all time.
