All movies are overrated, I hate all film.
You and Wanna Be A Foster!
Saying anything is "overrated" is a sign of condescension.
It makes me think of Woody Allen's Manhattan when Diane Keaton and Michael Murphy, playing two intellectual smart-asses, are walking down the street listing everyone who belongs in what they deem the "Overrated Hall of Fame." They list many of the world's greatest artists, and Woody Allen is exploding because he is so disgusted by their pedantic snobbery.
Of course, Woody Allen is overrated so pay no attention to what I just posted.
Way to negate your own post, miss p.
Negating your own posts is overrated.

EXACTLY! You are precisely right. That was what I was reaching for. It's as if you can't negate the argument for a film, but you can't bring yourself to join in the praise, so you deem it Overrated.
Thank you for agreeing with me, Joe, but I caution you. I, myself, am overrated.
Aren't we all!
How dare you insult my opinion of you, Miss Penny!
You just think you can get away with that because you have "Best" in your name. The only thing more pretentious than that would be calling yourself "overrated12bars."
(I still appreciate the compliment though! Thanks.
)
overrated12bars...
...I LIKE it.
How do I change my screen name?!?!
Hey, you know what Dr. Phil says: "If you can't change, be a sock-puppet!"
"Hi, I'm new around here, and highly overrated!"
I hear your "strong middle finger" is overrated as well.
Only in certain circles...
The only one out of the list that I have seen that I would consider "Overrated," is CLERKS (even though the sequel kicks serious arse). I laughed a few times, but overall it is boring.
of the ones i have seen (most except "nashville" and "chariots of fire") i agree with:
Fantasia
Mystic River
Easy Rider
The Red Shoes
many of the films on the list are not "great" films per se, but they are great for representing a style of filmmaking or capturing a period in time/counterculture. some of those, though, just don't seem to hold up upon later viewing, and that's where their "greatness" is lost on modern viewers. their achievements were in acting, technique, POV, staging, etc. but to the audiences of today, they can be overhyped and undervalued.
I'd have to say that I'm in the Singing in the Rain camp myself...certainly as the greatest FILM original musical!
Okay. So, you're one of the people who I feel overrates it. There's barely an original note of music in it. Like I said, I really enjoy it, and can watch it at the drop of a hat; but the film hits a brick wall for me, with the "Broadway Melody Ballet", which is just a boring Gene Kelly ego-trip. I stand by my label of overrated. My vote for best original film musical would be MARY POPPINS, a film that I find, underrated.
Singin' in the Rain wasn't supposed to have "original" songs in it. Arthur Freed wanted to use his catalogue as the basis for a film, and SITR is what Comden and Green came up with. (No one will argue that "Be a Clown" was original, even though it was "written" specifically for SITR...not even Cole Porter!)
I wasn't implying that it was supposed to have original music, just that its lack of original music negates it as a "best original film musical" for me.
As usual for magazines like this, the writers all seem to be about 25 or younger.

I just have to say--and I am not joking about this--YOUTH is overrated!
So now we can just go about our business and ignore Premiere Magazine, right?
I didn't agree with what was on their magazine, I love Fantasia, the ability to make a full length feature cartoon without dialogue was brilliant and it worked, I love the dancing flowers in the Nutcracker bit, not to mention the dancing hippos and alligators!! Love it! The Red Shoes was amazing to watch, but I am partial to all Michael Powell's films, they are lovely to watch. While I didn't care for Mystic River or A Beautiful Mind, I still find them "good" movies.
Nashville jumped out at me because I rate that one as one of my all time favorites.

I think they achieved their goal. As many have pointed out, the term 'overrated' is an inflammatory one, and causes a knee-jerk reaction of defensiveness. I know when I looked through the list my first reaction was, "WHAT?" So, they got what they wanted - and it's led to discussions such as this.
