Hopefully next year is the year for Breaking Bad with Bryan Cranston winning his 3rd Emmy, Aaron Paul winning since he was robbed this year, and the show winning for Best Drama.

Cheno's illness sounds strange. Could be a neuo sympathetic response. Or could be a stroke. Hope she gets better soon.

Or it could also be that she hasn't had a good meal since a week ago last Tuesday.

Thought Cherry was terrific, although slightly underused, last season on "24," so happy for her win and holding out hope that she has even more to do this season. I beleieve I read there is a presidential campaign plotline, so I can only imagine that will give her a lot of screen time.

Neil Patrick Harris made it worth watching. He is the best host X10 so far for the Emmys. WTG!

NPH was great.
I understand the Jon Cryer win.
TV really has captured the talent pool.
I want to lick Jon Hamm all over. And over and over. And over.

I fell asleep right around the end of the movie/mini series awards. As I predicted.
But reading through the thread it sounds like the rest of the show was pretty good! I thought NPH did a great job. Hope Kristen is ok!

Overall, I guess I was disappointed in many of their choices. I watch Colbert and Stewart, and Colbert is consistently better, so I was surprised that The Daily Show did so well. While I'm glad Grey Gardens won, I felt very strongly that Drew deserved the award over Jessica. Cherry Jones' win was a pleasant surprise. I was rooting for NPH and Jim Parsons, though I guess it would have been a shocker if Persons had won. Were Shaiman and Wittman not eligible for the songwriting award for the Tony number they cobbled together for NPH? My favorite line of the night was the intro for the cast of Big Bang Theory - something like 'the best show about four nerds and a babe since 60 Minutes'.
NPH did a terrific job, although the show seemed to lose momentum as the evening progressed. The gimmick of grouping the awards by genre didn't work for me.

All in all, I thought it was a good show. NPH did a great job.

It's being criticized in the media as a rerun of last year's show, with 30 Rock, Mad Men, Amazing Race, The Daily Show, Close, Baldwin, and Cranston all repeating.

That's not the show's fault, though, is it?

No, it's not, and the comments I've read about NPH have been uniformly positive. No matter how good NPH is, however, it may note bode well for future shows to have the same winners again and again.

I get what you're saying. Maybe they'll start pulling themselves out of the running, a la Kelsey Grammar and (I think) Candice Bergen after winning a few in a row. I dunno.

I guess the question that's being raised is: are these shows and performers still the best, or is the academy too set in their ways? Frankly, I don't know enough about the selection process to say whether or not they need to consider changing things up. And this is no new phenomenon. The Emmys are famous (infamous?) for repeat winners. In addition to this year's repeaters and those you mention, I think there have been several other multi-time repeaters over the years. Alison Janney, Michael J. Fox, and Laurie Metcalf come to mind.

It's really hard to say. Personally, I think 30 Rock's 3rd season was its best, and I would say it was the best comedy of the year.
