Production on The Office has shut down.#1

Due to the WGA strike, every actor involved with The Office refused to cross the picket lines. As such, NBC cancelled the show. The sets are being struck and the production offices are closed.
As much as I applaud their conviction, this totally sucks, since it's my favorite show.

I call bulls**t. It's been halted like every other show. Sandra Oh refused to cross picket lines, they shot what they could without her, but now production on Grey's is halted or will be by week's end.

I find it hard to believe that this is the only show whose cast is supporting the writers.

Posted: 11/7/07 at 4:59pmSeveral shows have shut down production, and most of the actors are behind the cause. But the Office cast just plain didn't show up for work, which puts them in violation of their contracts. And NBC's been looking to get rid of the show for a while -- the ratings aren't that great for a prime Thursday night time slot.

Only reality shows can really continue production and not all of them. Even shows with several scripts finished will have trouble because rewrites need to happen during the filming. I seriously doubt a blog would be where the cancelling of a show like The Office would be announced.
And it isn't the only show. Several actors are showing solidarity, but some are afraid of being fired as they are under contract. Some higher ups are more understanding than others.

Where did you get that information?
I thought it was a big hit.
All the Emmy nominations didn't help?
And of course Jenna Fischer can do no wrong!(right Phyllis?)

Change the thread title, stat. The "shut down for good" in that article means that production has been halted, which is sort of a no-brainer.
NBC would be shooting itself in the foot if it canceled The Office. It does really well in the prime demographics, even alongside Grey's Anatomy and CSI.

Posted: 11/7/07 at 5:13pmThe most surprising thing is that other actors - all members of another union - are actually crossing the picket line.

Posted: 11/7/07 at 5:16pmi hear they're gonna replace it with a new reality show called "how would you react to gay guys kissing?" a new hidden camera reality show that follows different gay couples around the country as they kiss in various places. they started out with 10 couples, but foolishly started them out in the deep south.

Posted: 11/7/07 at 5:28pmI checked on my DVR this morning to see what I had to record this week, and the listings were empty. When I looked at the cable guide screen to see what had happened, all the listings for my shows said "To Be Announced". Granted - I don't record that much, just three shows - but I was pretty bummed. So - Law and Order SVU, and Samantha Who must be shutting down too. Thank goodness for Amazing Race and Project Runway starting up next Wednesday!

Posted: 11/7/07 at 6:08pmWell, of course, Grey's is the show I know about, but they have four more episodes that have been filmed. They will be airing this week and as of now they are keeping the airing schedule. Episode eleven is partially filmed, so that will be it. It's possible that all of these shows will have half seasons, if even that. The last strike lasted 22 weeks.

Posted: 11/7/07 at 6:31pmNBC also is throwing together BI-GUY, a reality show that pushes a bisexual man into different situations that could lead to romance with a man or a woman. If by the end of the season he has chosen more men than women he has to wear the "I'M GAY!!!" badge for the rest of his life. If, on the other hand, he goes with more women than men he has to wear the "I'M STRAIGHTish!!!!" badge.

Just to clarify, the show hasn't been canceled. To quote Jenna Fischer: "We cannot produce new episodes of The Office until the Writer's Guild strike is over."
Meaning, once the strike is over, they can begin to shoot more episodes. She even says that she hopes they can shoot the next episode planned after the strike ends.

Actually, no reality show has unionized writers, so I don't think any of them will be effected.

I think I read Dancing with the Stars had writers, and the host was winging some of the "chat" and commentary because of the strike.
