Yeah, the goo he drank was pretty similar to the goo later in the movie, so my family figured it is breaking his body down to jumpstart the evolutionary process on Earth and create humans.

I think the goo is basically evolutionary goo. It makes things -- evolve. And apparently it makes them all evolve in ENTIRELY DIFFERENT WAYS because I guess that's just how science works or something.

But let's be clear about where the proto-xenomorph comes from at the end: Holloway ingests the goo and has sex with Shaw. For some reason, they make a proto-facehugger baby. Then the facehugger implants the proto-xenomorph in the space jockey at the end. So I guess you can say ingested goo can make your sperm full of proto-facehuggers, because that...makes...sense...

I don't know. That is the process, and I'm pretty confident the goo is evolutionary goo, but the movie really doesn't have internal consistency.

Right? I liked the movie more before my family and I started to pick it apart.

The proto-facehugger didn't have sex with the space jockey at the end, he just -- implanted the proto-xenomorph. IMO. Classic Alien style.

The stuff that got put into Holloway isn't from the uber-worm or proto-facehugger. He just had the goo put into his body. I mean -- maybe the difference seems flimsy, but it seems a fairly important distinction to me.

It's clear that there is no sort of consistency in regards to how the goo affects people. That seems clear. The previous logic of Alien was pretty simple: a queen xenomorph laid eggs of facehuggers. The facehuggers would implant xenomorphs into human hosts, which would then burst free when they were grown enough. Those non-queen xenomorphs would basically serve the queen by gathering hosts for implantation while the queen laid facehugger eggs. And I think the xenomorphs had some ability to develop into a queen if there was only one around and the cycle needed a jumpstart.

In Prometheus, the logic seems to be -- the goo will do whatever it wants. In Holloway, it gave him weird proto-xenomorph sperm? I guess? So that he could make Shaw into a sort of alien queen to birth a proto-facehugger? I GUESS? So that the proto-facehugger could implant in a space jockey and make a proto-xenomorph? THIS MOVIE MAKES NO SENSE.

That was a different jockey, surfer.

In fact, it wasn't even the same planet on which The Nostromo finds the jockey with the exploded chest in Alien.

I thought for a sec in Prometheus when he got in the chair to take off that it was going to be THE space jockey from the original.

But then I remembered it was a different planet. We haven't seen exactly how the original jockey ends up in that chair.

Maybe the sequel will connect it.

No, they didn't mention it outright. As a fan of the series I happen to know that Alien took place on LV-426 and Prometheus took place on LV-223. Ridley also mentioned it somewhere along the way in an interview I saw.

Here's an interesting take that someone put together after watching the film and interviews with Ridley Scott. I did find it interesting they mentioned the engineers died 2000 years ago...

Well I’m curious about the deleted scenes. Specifically in this film, Noomi [Rapace] mentioned maybe there was a fight scene with her and an Engineer.

SCOTT: The Engineer fight scene was pretty good. It will definitely go on the menu. It won’t go on the long version. The problem about it is, while she gives as good as she gets with an axe (she’s very physical), he’s so big, for him to be clouted with a conventional weapon somehow diminished him. It’s subtle. It’s drama. I didn’t want to diminish him by having this person who has a weapon to be able to back him off. It minimized him. That’s why when he deals with people inside his cockpit, it’s over. Wham, wham, wham. Even the shot doesn’t mean anything. And so all she has time for is introducing him to the big boy inside the lab.

You’re going to do an extended cut on the Blu-ray/DVD. Is it a lot longer?

SCOTT: Twenty minutes.

Some really interesting comments by Lindleoff and Scott about the sequel:

Here's what Lindelof told TIME, when asked where the two characters at the end of the movie will head to next:

"I think they’re going where she wants to go. His fundamental programming has been scrapped. Weyland [the man who built and programmed him] is dead and so now his programming is coming from God knows where. Is he being programmed by Elizabeth, or is it his own internal curiosity now that Weyland isn’t telling him what to do any more? He’s always been interested in Elizabeth, remember that: He’s watching her dreams when she’s sleeping in much the same way that he watches Lawrence of Arabia. He’s a strange robot that has a curious crush on a human being, and when Weyland is eliminated, I think he is genuinely interested in what she’s interested in. He reaches out partly for survival, but partly out of curiosity, and I think he’s sincere that he’ll take her wherever she wants to go."

Ridley Scott seems very eager to explore their next destination. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, he makes it clear that a sequel has been planned from day one:

"From the very beginning, I was working from a premise that lent itself to a sequel. I really don't want to meet God in the first one. I want to leave it open to [Dr. Elizabeth Shaw (Noomi Rapace)] saying, 'I don't want to go back to where I came from. I want to go where they came from.'"

"Because [the Engineers] are such aggressive f*ckers, I always had it in there that the God-like creature that you will see actually is not so nice, and is certainly not God. I'd love to explore where the [Dr. Shaw] goes next and what does she do when she gets there, because if it is paradise, paradise can not be what you think it is. Paradise has a connotation of being extremely sinister and ominous."

Lindelof had this to add in regards to a possible sequel:

"[Prometheus] has two children: One of these children grows up to be 'Alien,' but the other child is going to grow up, and God knows what happens to them. And that's what the sequel to 'Prometheus' would be."

Summing up, I'd be surprised if we wouldn't be getting a PROMETHEUS sequel somewhere down the line.

Totally. You can really tell it was "real" as opposed to greenscreen.

One of the biggest criticisms I've been hearing is the number of stupid things the characters did that are so ridiculous they qualify as plot holes.

My favorite: How does the cartographer get lost but the other group get out immediately?

I hear they may be releasing a director's cut of THE AVENGERS at the end of summer before it comes out on DVD. If so, Fox and Ridley Scott should SERIOUSLY consider doing the same for PROMETHEUS. I really enjoyed PROMETHEUS but feel a director's cut is what it needs. I just ordered from Amazon the Art of PROMETHEUS.Can't wait to get it.
