Hey, is it easy to get to Provincetown from NYC? Like, is it easy to get there by train or something? My friend is going there for an audition, he also needs a place to live, if anyone has any leads on that, ha.
I don't know much about traveling from NYC to Ptown, but I'd suggest your friend check out Craigslist as far as subletting/living there goes.

There's no train that goes directly there. He can take the train to Boston and take a ferry across from there. It's easier to rent a car, though. (my advice -- take Metro North out of the city to New Haven and rent a car there, which not only is much cheaper but will get you past the awful I-95 traffic on the NY/CT border)
From New Haven? $40-$50 a day. There's a Hertz location right by the New Haven train station, and an Enterprise not too far away, I think. Cheaper than the Amtrak/ferry combo, much faster and much more in your control. The only risk is that if there's any trouble on that Cape Cod rode, it can make a big, big traffic mess.
From New York? Double that car rental rate.

Simple answer: not easy.
I've found that better than trains and car rentals, and cheaper than either, is the very good bus service. You can get a direct bus from Port Authority through to Hyannis, where you'd have a short wait for a connecting bus to Provincetown. You can check out schedules and fares at www.peterpanbus.com
You have to be at least 25 to rent a car (I think). When is the audition? It is PRIME tourist season in P-town, if it's during the summer, and overnight will be expensive and not easy to find. If he IS coming in the summer, I would book his room quickly.
And I agree with the suggestion to take the bus. Probably the cheapest and least stressful suggestion. (It would be cheaper to stay in HYANNIS over P-town.)

The Bolt Buses from NYC to Boston are cheap (about $15 each way), efficient (non-stop) and comfortable (lots of leg room and wired for internet). It's a very quiet ride because almost everyone on the bus is using their laptops or notebooks!
The Boston bound Bolt Bus leaves from 34th Street, beside the Tick Toc Diner.
