Queen Latifah as Ifill on SNL tonight?
re: Queen Latifah as Ifill on SNL tonight#25
Posted: 10/5/08 at 1:04amVery funny episode tonight. Tina Fey was brilliant! So was Sedaikis as Biden. Latifah looked like Gwen. I thought Anne Hathaway did a great job. She never appeared to be looking at cue cards like most of the other hosts do. So glad I stayed up for this!

*sigh*
Why is that so close to the truth?
Honestly. I've lost my ability to laugh at what is laughable.

I was able to laugh. I'm starting to feel more confident that McCain/Palin have no chance. So, I'm much more relaxed and able to really enjoy the parody.
Of the Palin SNL sketches I'd rank this second behind the Palin Hillary sketch.

Courtny - I'd probably be more able to laugh if I hadn't had the misfortune of listening to a middle-aged, middle-class woman ramble on today about why she was voting for them (all about fear of terrorism and Palin's REAL international awareness.) She had had this position preached to her in her 'mega-church', and bought every bit of it, hook, line and sinker.
It scared me.

See, I don't hang out with delusional weirdoes. I only hang out with people who agree with me all the time. Haha. Okay that's not true but I do live in a pretty liberal area and I avoid fox news like the plague so fortunately the only things I have heard about Palin are super negative.
But I totally understand how you feel...I have friends who voted for Bush in 2004.

"I don't hang out with delusional weirdoes."
Normally, neither do I. But this is my sister-in-law (de facto,) whom I was unfortunately thrown in with a couple of days ago. We hadn't seen each other in four-and-a-half years, to give you some idea of our 'connection'.
But she represents a large portion of this country, and the way they 'think'.
I'm just leery of what history can show us. These people mobilize effectively, and no matter how much I hear about the 'energization' of the younger crowd, they don't historically 'show up'.
Could this be the one that changes the tide? Sure. But I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah, after the 2000 and 2004 elections I was a bit disillusioned with the American electoral system but I guess I'm just a stupid optimist. Or is it insane? ( Y'know repeatedly doing the same thing and expecting a different result each time?)
ETA: I would be ecstatic to see a huge youth voter turnout this year but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if that didn't happen. And yes it's frustrating that some people just don't bother to vote but I'm not counting on those folks. I'm counting on the (haha) temporary sanity of the people who do vote to make the right choice.

I just get stuck on the idea that this Palin woman is being given any credit whatsoever - by anyone. Honestly, I can't wrap my head around it. I don't care WHAT your political leanings are, she is OBVIOUSLY out of the realm of what should be considered acceptable.
And yet, here we are - and there she is.
*sigh*
I feel like it would be helpful to keep a positive attitude - which I normally do in my daily life - but watching this charade of a political process leaves very little room for anything but disgust, despair and . . . well, nothing else.

I absolutely agree Q. That anyone could claim Palin won or even tied the debate is almost as ridiculous as the fact that she was chosen as a VP nominee at all. It's insulting.
Just one month left. It's equally exciting and frightening and no matter what the outcome this exasperatingly long campaign will be over! That's a positive right?

"What really frightens me is the almost religious cult the Fundamentalists and Conservatives in this Administration have created that is taking over right before our eyes. I mean, at its worst religion rules people by putting the fear of God in them and then saying only God can save you. The government has done the same thing, tapped into that fear which causes people to think completely irrationally."
The film Jesus Camp comes to mind.

Tina Fey was great, SNL did some incisive political commentary, and as usual, I'm completely stressed and creeped out by the whole thing.
Watching Sarah Palin so obviously and annoyingly fake her way through, as other politicians have done throughout history but with some success, is depressing. I get tired of things being so difficult--things are a bit hard for me right now, and yet people are so willing to gobble up Palin's mediocrity.
Sarah Palin gets to suck, and people insist on being so damn blind. She's an android from hell. Why can't we have candidates who care about this country instead of demonstrating extremist points of view? Why do we have to fight the backwards forces all. the. damn. time?
GAH. SNL does too good a job--I'm all angry now. Again.

There are no guarantees, but right now Obama has a much larger, better organized ground game than McCain. Check out www.fivethiryeight.com for their visits to campaign offices for both parties in the battelground states. Obama has exponentially more offices and workers in the field, and they're working some areas that McCain just doesn't have the resources to address.

The SNL skit revealed a lot....
Queen Latifah did Gwen Ifill to the "T". Ifill was so slanted and so much cheering for Biden.
Everytime Tina Fey does Sarah, Sarah's polls go up! Let's hope she keeps it up every week between now and November 4.
Like Sarah, Tina won!

Liar.

Posted: 10/5/08 at 8:50amNope, I just re watched it. Latifah showed us just how biased Poor Gwen was.
re: Queen Latifah as Ifill on SNL tonight#47
Posted: 10/5/08 at 8:52amSo much negative attention is being given to Palin, that the Repugs just might win. That's how it happens--people focus so much on some dumb thing that the people causing all the bad hoopla tend to win. Obama needs to step off the genteel approach and get more aggressive.

Latifah should go interview with Katie. Couric and Latifah together would be great entertainment.
Wait! Katie is just an entertainer isn't she? She isn't trying to be a "real" journalist is she?

The only debate that really matters is the last one. The attention span of the average American is extremely short. But I honestly believe that you're going to see a more forceful Obama in Tuesday night's debate. Still, I don't want to see him go on the attack. He needs to remain poised and confidant. He just needs to put McCain on the defensive and call him out on his BS.
But back to SNL... the opening sketch was hilarious and spot on! They must pre-tape the openings with Fey. They're too perfect. Never a flub. And she isn't around to take a bow with the rest of the cast at the end of the show.
