A wonderful actor. He was 91. "Mare,Mare,Mare..." One of my favorite shows.
I just hope Betty White makes it to 100. She's the last surviving cast member.
I read today that he was SAG president for a couple of years and that he won 7 Emmy awards which is a record for a male actor. RIP.

I also forgot to mention,in my previous post, that he was an activist for progressive causes. He lost relatives in the Holocaust. There is a picture of Asner's family in the Holocaust Museum in Washington,D.C.

Lisa Gerritsen and Helen Hunt are both still alive and I will cling to ever last member of the MTM cast.

Although they were only stagedoor encounters, he really was a sweet man. The best experience was at Born Yesterday. He was so kind to me, after Madeline Kahn cursed me out.

Ok, I just have to ask. Why did she curse you out?

Ha. Back then I used to have an autograph book. I asked her for an autograph.
His role as Hudson from the Disney series Gargoyles was my first time knowing about him, and loved the rest of his work on and off the screen since then. Rest in peace.

Wow !! I guess a polite "I don't sign autograph books" comment was too much for her - smh !!

Over the years I have been on the receiving end of some nasty by a few celebrities. I usually remain calm and don't engage. Which is quite not like me. If provoked, I can be a nasty & vicious c**t. Madeline was the most disappointing because I was such a huge fan. At the time it hurt my feelings. That's where Ed Asner entered. Over the years, I've been on the receiving end by a mean spirited Christopher Plumber (his daughter is the opposite) and a really rude Billy Dee Williams. The most recent was a smart alec Keiran Culkin, who tried to impress others by insulting me. I felt...he really wasn't a big star and he started it....so 'the real me" came out. I read the bitch to filth nonstop. I think I made him cry. However, these situations are not the norm. Majority of my encounters have been wonderful.

So, in a thread to honor Ed Asner, you choose to dishonor other celebrities? With all these "encounters," perhaps YOU are the problem, not them.
But, I had the pleasure to (briefly) meet Mr. Asner a number of years ago. A real gentleman.

Oh, you alter cocker. I answered a question. My depiction of a "few" equaled three. Not as you state "all" And before you post it, which you have said many, many, many, times on here to others, yes, my response is agist.
When Plummer was in Cyrano I tried to get him to autograph album cover for Cyrano. While sitting in a cab he did it Guess people sometimes get them at a bad moment.
If you want to relish an early acting gem of his watch him in The Fall Of The Roman Empire. He got it after Richard Harris turned it down He later played the character in Gladiator. Believe it was his 3rd role .He really chews the scenery .He starts off sane and by the end he is Looney tunes . Beautiful film that died at the box office . He literally devoured everyone and everything in his way To go you tube and put in Commodus Victory Parade. He has no dialog here .It is worth checking out. He has another small scene here Film was 1964

See nothing wrong with saying how much nicer Ed Asner was than other celebrities which IMO is "honoring him. BTW - some celebrities are rude and mean people.
Any actor his age was in old retro tv.Programs like Have Fun Will Travel and the Invaders and The Fugitive are Prime examples.
