re: ROME

I am watching the pilot for Rome today at work. I will post my thoughts tonight. It is rated MA for mature scenes, frontal nudity, and strong language on top of the gore. We got a disclosure at work yesterday. Anyways, look out for my review on this show. I am really looking forward to watching it.

FYI - The Long Firm was on BBC America a few (three to five, I think) months ago. I imagine they'll show it again eventually.

Frontal nudity=YAY!

re: ROME

Ok...just got back from watching the screening...WOW this show is gonna be good...There was a lot to follow in the first episode but the show is gonna be good. The mother looks a little young in my opinion but it is rome so she was probably younger when she had the kids. The young son is very good in this show. There was no male frontal nudity only female...sorry re: ROME

The show reminds me of a mix between gladiator and passion of the christ... when you see it you will see why. A couple of my coworkers had to leave because of some of the gore...It really wasn't that bad, kinda gross though, espeically when the mother took a blood shower.

re: ROME

I can't wait to see Rome, although I don't think anything could surpass I Claudius. There's not one episode of that which is boring. I can't remember something else which had a performace that I have etched in my memory as much as John Hurt's Caligula.
And hang on, when did you win the discus?

Livia did a good job of making me never forget her.
I love Sian Philips.

re: ROME

Glebb, I was just watching ET and thought of you! There's a preview for 'Rome' on tonight's episode, which you may have missed, unless it's re-running in syndication several more times tonight and morning daytime. The show looks excellent. Very visual, opulent, graphic...I totally agree with bustinloose's assessment of 'Gladiator' meets 'The Passion'. Does anyone know when and where it's airing in Canada?

re: ROME

I'm excited for this as well . . . there's a big article on it in the current Entertainment Weekly. Apparently, it's been seven years in the making, with a budget of $100 million!

re: ROME

One hundred million! Yikes, it had better be good! Let's keep our fingers crossed that it just as exciting and chilling as 'I Claudius'.
I have not seen much television this week (except Six Feet Under earlier in the week) because of work.
All set for ROME on Sunday night though. :)

re: ROME

I liked it...shows promise. The writing in the 1st episode was fine, not great...the story is holding my interest. I'm sure i'll watch.

The comparisons to I, Claudius are inevitable, maybe unfair because I, Claudius is not only one of the greatest British dramas as pattifan2 pointed out...It is one of the best dramas in the history of television, period. That show is one of the main reasons I became interested in acting. When it was on originally, I was maybe 10 years old and I used to leave my friends outside waiting for me as I watched it with my parents.

re: ROME

I doubt anything will ever come close to "I Claudius".
Sian Philips (among others) was out of this world. Her pep talk to the gladiators was hysterical - "You're all scum and you know it." Until "I Claudius", I always thought the line "Goodness has nothing to do with it." was attributed to Mae West. Who knew is was said by Livia first?

Good line from last night: "Do you want him to pluck a harp? He's a warrior not a poet."

re: ROME

Yes...great line. I like the friendship that's forming between the 2 roman soldiers, Titus and Lucius.
