What it really means is that The Color Purple came out and Oprah got an Oscar nomination for it the same year her talk show went into national syndication and Oprah became in instant millionaire with instant fame.
That's what she means.
That's when they didn't get along anymore.
It's all about that cheap hotel she had to stay in when she went on Oprah's talk show.
