I know ... "re-discovering Wicked" sounds wierd ... but tonight, I listened to the obcr for the first time in months. It waz immediately as if I was discovering it again. All the emotions came baack, and the masterful words and music of Stephen Schwartz suddenly came alive as if for the first time.
I found this so amazing, as we all know how unbelievably brilliant Wicked is, and am just wondering: has anybody else experienced the same thing, with either Wicked or other musicals?

Me too! I hadn't listened to my Rent in about 6 or 7 months. So I listened to it a few months ago and it was better than before.

Posted: 8/9/06 at 6:46pmI do that all the time! With random things. Usually Rent because I mostly listen to the soundtrack now and when I listen to the recording I'm like WHOA THIS IS AMAZING!

Posted: 8/9/06 at 7:05pmI rediscovered Man of La Mancha but I had to repurchase a few of the tracks on iTunes because my CD has a huge gash in it.

Posted: 8/9/06 at 8:10pmYeah, this happened to me again recently. I hadn't listened to Les Mis in about a year, and then last week I just couldn't turn it off and it was like I was listening to it for the first time all over again, but better because I had all of the lyrics memorized. : )

Posted: 8/10/06 at 1:43amI LOVE rediscovering shows. Rent, Wicked, TTB, and now I've really gotten into rediscovering Jersey Boys when I put it away for only a short while.

Posted: 8/10/06 at 5:52pmI didn't really like Hairspray that much, so I haven't listened to it since May and won't for another few months, in the hope that i might get it then by just surprising myself or something.

our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

I think it's just another step in the vicious circle of Wicked. You buy the CD, become obsessed, annoy others as well as yourself with your constant singing/listening, vow never to listen to it again, let it get dusty in the back of your closet(or become the least listened to CD on your i-pod), find new obsessions which don't make you feel quite so main-stream, and then, one day...you decide to listen again, just for the hell of it...and realized you were really always obsessed with it...and secretly always will be...
lol...sorry that was so long

Posted: 8/10/06 at 10:21pmYup lol... you're most definitely correct. Same thing happened with Showboat. I have the premiere cast recording from the 90's, and I listened to it for the first time in years, and it was like, "whoa!" "Amazing" music, and some of Rodgers & Hammerstein's all-time best work. The overture is one of the greatest in musical theatre!

Showboat was not written by R&H, though the lyrics were by H.
It did not premier in the 90's, though there was a revival.

lol Yeh, I meant Hammerstein ... R&H was just on my mind, I guess.
And I know Showboat was a revival ... I was referring to the world premiere cast recording from the 90's.

Posted: 8/10/06 at 10:48pmSorry lol! They should not call it a world premier recording, though, that is deceptive. The "world premiere" was in 1927.
