I can't wait for the knee-jerk, reactionary flip-outs!
Reconsider Columbus Day
I read an article a few weeks ago about the most overrated people in history, and Columbus was included. His life was romanticized for generations, but in addition to the injustices committed, he went to his grave not realizing where he had landed.
This year, I have chosen to use Columbus Day to honor Chris Columbus, the director of the greatest motion picture ever made, Adventures In Babysitting.
That said, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that our local high school teaches the actual, unromanticized history of that other Columbus.

But what he did to ReNt is akin to what happened to the Native Americans!

Not to mention his vision of Harry Potter was like Columbus thinking he was in India but he was really in the Caribbean.
Does anybody even get this day off anymore besides banks and government employees? I always forget this day even exists until I get home from work and find my mailbox empty.
Which this year means my Netflix are going to be delayed a day, and I won't get them to watch on the plane before I leave on Wednesday. Damn you, Columbus! Still screwing with people even today.
Our school's calendar doesn't refer to it as Columbus Day, but as the more ubiquitous "Founder's Day."
I never had school off growing up in Florida, it's only since moving to the Northeast did I find it observed.
Truly a holiday that should be reconsidered. Columbus did some horrific things, arguably that outweigh any "discovering" he may have done (that was also arguably already done anyway).
