She told The Times of London four years ago that she "would not want to live if I could not perform. It's in my will. I am not to be revived unless I can do an hour of stand-up. I don't fear it."

"Rivers got a job in the shoe department at Lord & Taylor and progressed to fashion coordinator of Bond clothing stores. But she decided to pursue acting and appeared in a play titled Seawood on the Upper East Side of Manhattan as a knife-wielding lesbian with a crush on a character played by a then-unknown Barbra Streisand."

She will dominate TV broadcasts for at least a week. Exactly as she would have wanted.

Melissa's statement:
It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my mother, Joan Rivers. She passed peacefully at 1:17pm surrounded by family and close friends. My son and I would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Mount Sinai Hospital for the amazing care they provided for my mother.
Cooper and I have found ourselves humbled by the outpouring of love, support, and prayers we have received from around the world. They have been heard and appreciated.
My mother's greatest joy in life was to make people laugh. Although that is difficult to do right now, I know her final wish would be that we return to laughing soon.
When they sit shiva at E!, how is Seacrest gonna handle the lack of mirrors???
Being with your parent - or any loved one - as they pass is the hardest thing and the most blessed thing one can ever do in life.
My heart breaks for Melissa as she loses her mother.

Oh! Don't start with you!
(that was for Robbie, Addy…)
If there is an afterlife, I imagine my David going up to her and saying, 'Joan! We died in the same place.'
He was never good with an opening, that one.
Yes! I can hear him saying that...

My partner works part-time backstage at a small theater. One weekend there was a benefit for Gilda's Club and Joan Rivers was the featured entertainer. That night in addition to his black shirt and black pants he was wearing an obnoxious loud pair of gold lame Chuck Taylor sneakers. Joan came to the wings to go on stage wearing a gold lame dress. She saw his sneakers and loved them. Right there on the spot she autographed both sneakers for him while they were still on his feet! He said she was SO nice. He is thrilled to this day with his gold lame Joan Rivers Chuck Taylor sneakers. He won't wear them! hahah
A short shiva- tomorrow is Friday- they would barely have time for a burial, then it's Shabbat .
That's probably how she'd want it, too-she wouldn't want her family to get bogged down in sorrow.

"Do you realize what it's like to wake up in the morning and go to take off your facial mask and realize you're not wearing one?"
He was never good with an opening, that one.
I can't! It's just too easy. Like RobbieJ! Oh!
>I'm Fvcking devastated today.
I don't get too caught up with celebrities but after watching her documentary a year or so back I realized why I love her so much. I just wish someone would have advised her to have that procedure in a hospital.
If you think about it, she had a good death! Worked up until the end and probably knew nothing more then going under for the proceedure. I am glad they took her off Life Support.
RIP
She was the funniest comic I ever saw bar none. There is no god, but her god, let her rest in peace.
Melissa has been a paragon of virtue throughout this. I hope she finds peace in the fact that so many of us loved her mother.
I actually missed when she and Melissa stopped doing the red carpet events for E!. She was crazy, but funny. Then her Fashion Police show from then was always amusing because she would be get a little carried away with what she didn't like, but you couldn't say her outfits on the red carpet were so wonderful either.
If my last part is considered mean and insensitive, I will gladly delete.
When Joan met GWAR...which reminds me, we just lost Dave Brockie not 6 GD months ago. Jesus!
