It's not about whether or not we suspected before. It's about the culture that tells them they won't have a career if they're honest.

We should all stop saying "What took you so long?" and "Big surpise."

Well to be honest PJ, his career wasn't exactly on fire.

Not taking away whatever courage he had to do this, but wouldn't it have been something if he had come out during the Livin La Vida Loca frenzy?

But shoulda, coulda, woulda I suppose. I'm happy for him and hope he finds some peace.

Now, when is Annas_Priest going to come out? That's the question.

Namo and Pal, I agree with you. Even today, even when everyone supposedly knows or assumes, this is still a big deal.
I am totally out to everyone I know, but when I go to the airport, or out to dinner, or anywhere in public, none of the strangers I encounter know anything about me. (And I like it that way). It's not the same for people like Ricky, NPH, etc. Being out publicly is very different.

I don't see the big deal. He's not exactly "relevant" anymore. It's nice that he finally came out, but he doesn't really have anything to lose anymore so I fail to see the courage aspect.

I agree with CATSNYrevival. Sounds like he is pushing his book. Sean Hayes is in a Broadway show,but I think it would have been great if he came out when he was on a hit show. Same with David Hyde Pierce.I applaud them for coming out but they do it when it's safe or when they are not as popular.

However, there are rare exceptions.George Takei is more popular now than ever.His SHARP TV commercials are hilarious and he is finding more work now than ever. Not sure if there is any truth to it but I heard on the radio Priceline want George to start doing their ads.So, people like George and Neil Patrick Harris have found coming out does not hurt their careers at all.

I guess everyone has to come out on their own terms.

Thank goodness! I have known for about 8 or 9 years now. When I worked for a very large investment company, I worked with an FA that was close to him and he confirmed it. I have never said a word.

Martin still has good music sales internationally. I think he's a person who has built a strong body of work and had a big impact on pop culture globally and personally he seems much more relevant than Sean Hayes ever was.

I love him. He has a great personality. Only own one of his CD's though. Glad he decided to come out. Maybe he can enjoy his life even more without it hanging over his head.
