Good for him.

I dont really understand why Ricky's getting praise here, but Sean Hayes, for the most part, did not...just alot of snark.

That what Sean Hayes gave: a lot of snark.

Ricky's statement has set a bar for honesty and integrity. When his times comes, Anderson will have to work hard to do the same with as much dignity.

I didnt much care for the attitude of Hayes' article either, and from that I would gather that he may just not be a person I would like very much and I agree that Ricky's statement is lovely, but I just think they both deserve the same support for coming out.

But these are two people that nobody was shocked by the announcement. MAYBE there's a few people still out there who didn't know about Ricky Martin, but these coming out announcements are about as shocking as Clay's was. They both know damn good and well everyone knew they liked the pole and not the hole so, yes. Good for them for finally coming out but now we need some of those John Travoltas and Hugh Jackmans to do the same thing.

Maybe because Sean was playing an openly gay character on an openly gay TV show and he couldn't be open about himself?

People could see I was gay from space, but it was still very difficult for me to come out. It was a long time ago, but I didnt have the added pressure of worrying about my career or it being so public.

It's not whether everyone already knows or not, it's that they are showing they are not ashamed...being counted.

It's always difficult for anyone to come out. There is always a reason to stay in the closet. It is always easier to go along and play coy.

So I guess there is a scale somewhere to ration out the support? What are the criteria?

I'd rather just support people for coming out and being counted, whether they are timely about it or not, or if I like them or not.

We live in a time when a Mexican national polititian can actually go on record as stating that she would rather see a child DIE than be adopted by a gay couple.

Sorry, love, she's FAR from being a politician. She's just a "singer", who comes from a very humble background and she apologized already (I think she didn't even know what she was saying).

Nonetheless, gay marriage in Mexico has certainly brought a big wave of homophobia, and there are now gangs organized only to violently attack gays who display affection in public.

I forgot that statement as well.

Besides, last time I was in Mexico, the drag shows were the most popular family attraction. I was taken to a "Honorary Mexican Brunch" and the place (Which was HUGE and had two floors) was filled to the rafters with families watching full on drag shows, with boobs hanging out and everything.

No one there seemed to dislike gays…

So, I totally missed this since I was out of the country, but I have two reactions to this:

1 - Good for Ricky! I can't imagine the stress of a celebrity who fears for their established career where the mindset of the industry is still deeply ingrained in the values established on reruns of Leave It To Beaver.

2 - Rumor has it Honolulu is a city in Hawaii. Will the truth ever be known?
