I seem to be able to force it to go both ways, but only sometimes, other times it is always going Clockwise.
I'd say the opposite of Elphaba, it is 70% clockwise for me, I am right-handed yet still extremely right brained.
Sara and I were watching at the same time and she saw Clockwise while I saw counter, so it seems to certainly not be a loop.

I stand corrected, you are as vapid as they say.

I saw it go clockwise first, it took me a long time and lots of concentration to make it go counter clockwise. It only went counter clockwise for a few seconds before I saw it going clockwise again.

Counter-clockwise, but can change it if I think really hard. Also, reading changes it clockwise. So strange!

That's really f*cking creepy, actually. I just look at it and it changes back and forth. So weird.

Someone said something earlier in this thread about looking at the ballerina's position in the turn... but here's the thing: no matter which direction she's turning, she's led by her extended arm. It's the same position, regardless of whether it's clockwise.

It's not a trick. My husband came in to look at it, and we looked at it SIMULTANEOUSLY. He saw her moving clockwise, while I saw her moving counter-clockwise. At the exact same moment in time.
As it happens, my husband is very artistic and has a sort of a seat-of-his-pants kind of attitude towards life. He is right handed, however. (As am I.)
Neither of us could make it switch. :-P

Ok......I've been coming back to this all day......and I'm finally able to see it "switch" to counterclockwise...but I had to concentrate only on her feet...and even when I can see her whole body going counter clockwise, it still doesn't "feel" right....to me, it looks more natural when she goes clockwise...
oh...and i'm right handed....but I play piano and do lots of music based things all day long...and music is a whole brain function...so who knows?????

If you see her toes facing forward as she lands on the floor, that must be her right foot, her swinging leg then passes in front of her (from viewer's left to right) -- so she is swinging (what I call) counterclockwise.
If the toes are facing away as that foot lands, that must be her left foot, and her swinging right leg then passes behind her (meaning upstage), (still though from viewer's left to right) -- so she appears to be swinging clockwise.
Or -- Look at the shadow or reflection of her planted foot. If you "see" that as a right foot, then her actual planted foot is her left foot; and vice versa. (The swinging shadow leg, when visible, will pass either upstage of the planted shadow foot, or between the planted shadow foot and the viewer.)
p.s. Knowing all that, there is still no way to keep her from suddenly changing direction on me.

Ok, when I first opened it, all I could see was counter- clockwise. But, when I saw that most of you were only seeing clockwise, I went back in and now all I see is clockwise. Apparently, I'm easily influenced.
I haven't gotten it to switch before my eyes.

Okay, can someone explain this to me? Obviously, since it's on the screen, we aren't controlling when and how it turns. But, since our brain makes us see a change and shows us that it's spinning, what is the dancer actually doing? Is she really spinning, or is it just an illusion?
...Does that make any sense?

Same exact for me. The reading aspect seemed to be relevant when I was trying to figure it out the other night. I just clicked on it and the same thing happened. Immediately counter, I read, then clockwise.

Here's what I THINK is the answer: she isn't spinning at all. She's swinging from side to side, and the way your brain interprets it creates the spin. If you're right brained, then you see her spin to the left as being more prominently. If you're left brained, you see the spin to the right as being more prominent.

I don't see how that could be, FF. We see her both in front, in profile, in back, and again in profile. She must be turning.
I must be really evenly divided in my left and right brain functions. I'll just watch for a few minutes and she'll change direction 3 or 4 times. I don't have to concentrate on her foot - it just happens.

Exactly. Front-profile-Back-profile... I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. But I know that if I look just at her legs, I can make them swing back and forth.

She still moves clockwise according to my eyes, but I made her go counter-clockwise by covering my left eye. This is cool. I cannot make it change without turning it off and starting over.

It's going clockwise. Not surprising. I don't think my left brain exists.
edit: And I can't seem to switch it no matter how hard I try.

I just did my math homework and went back to it, and it was going counter clockwise. (I was able to switch it to clockwise) Where as when I first tried it I had just gotten home from play rehersal. Intresting...

Clockwise, and no matter what I do, I can't change it. Even trying all the tricks people have put on here. Nothing changes it from clockwise.

If I convince myself it's going to be clockwise before I click on it, then I see it clockwise. And vice versa, though counter-clockwise comes easier to me anyway.

That just screwed up my mind sooooo badly. Clockwise for me. Went back a few minutes later and blinked as fast as I could while looking at the lifted leg and imagining it going the other way and then I could change it. It's so weird, once you see it one way I couldn't imagine that it could be spinning in any other direction. Weirdness.

So I forwarded to people at work... engineers and scientists... and most of them see it switch randomly from clockwise to counter-clockwise.

She kept switching back and forth for me. But, danced clockwise first.
Fascinating.

Just wondering... my friend and I were looking at the same time on different computers and she switched at the exact same time. Without trying she just kind of switches.
