I actually watched the cablecast of the right-wing cult figure known as Rush Limbaugh ramble for well over an hour at the Conservative Political Action Conference. Dude is so full of himself. He and Sean Hannity prefer playing Monday morning quarterback to suiting up and running for elected office.
Toward the end of his coronation as maker of the next GOP king (or queen), Lardicus Limbaugh reemphasized that he hopes that Obama fails miserably in his attempt at jump starting the economy. He used a contrived analogy of liberals hoping that the war in Iraq failed as justification for his hate speech.
Rush and Hannity make me regret that radio and in turn TV have supplanted print media in terms of political influence. Just to keep things fair and balanced, to a large extent Obama owes his political fortune to the other influential talking head, Oprah Winfrey, and untethered MSM.
Fortune favors the idols of Limbaugh, Hannity, Ingraham and Winfrey.

re your thread title - I doubt it.
re your thread title - I doubt it.
Why does that dumbass WANT Obama to fail? So he can play the "I told you so" if the economy does implode?
My memories of the late Paul Harvey's radio show during my youth make Rush Limbaugh even more a blathering rabid self-aggrandizing blowhard.
I agree with Rush on most of the fiscal issues but the man is truly vile.
He lost so much weight when he was a junkie, having his maid buy his drugs for him. I had not seen him for a while and he has gained all that weight back. However, hearing him speak today it sounds like he is back on drugs. His drug abuse cost him his hearing. He judged others and criticized those who abused drugs, and even went on the record when the Kennedy Family was having some legal troubles about hiring Roy Black. He said if your guilty you hire Roy Black. So, when Rush got in some legal trouble himself he hired Roy Black. When it comes to him or a Republican there is a different set of rules.
Rush is a liar, a racist, and a hypocrite. Anyone who takes what he says as being truthful or as fact is a moron. I know Republicans who despise him and trash him all the time. Rush calls himself an Entertainer and that's exactly what he is. He just isn't very entertaining.

As long as he's suffering, I don't care what the reason is.
The fact that people listen to him, much less agree, is cause for alarm.
I am all for Limbaugh becoming the face and voice of the Conservative party. He will only continue to marginalize them.
I absolutely idolize and agree with Rush. The fact that you lefties hate him so much just makes people like me, the conservatives, love him even more.
I'm with mb, the more he opens his mouth and is seen as the GOP spokesman, the less chance they have of making any gains in 2010.
Here's Rahm Emanuel promoting Rush as the voice of the GOP:

Limbaugh is a joke and has no credibility and the Republicans are turning towards him for guidance. It would be like the Democrats turning to Michael Moore for advice. If the GOP were smart (LOL) they would distance them self from Rush rather than embrace him. Why stop with Rush? Why not welcome Ann Coulter with open arms as well?I
f they haven't turned all the moderate Republicans against their party than they have now by giving Limbaugh a soap box to preach his ditto hate spew. I say again, anyone who believes Rush or looks up to him is, in my opinion, a moron!
I know plenty of Republicans (usually the more moderate ones) who can't stand Rush and believe he does a lot more harm than good. It seems he is only accepted by the fringe wing of the party, the same way Michael Moore is with Democrats.
My dad told me today, and I quote, "Rush Limbaugh is NOT a republican. He's conservative but not a Republican."
Rush must have passed some of his drugs to my dad. Granted, this is also the same guy that watched Fox News religiously and every time I see him he goes, "You are going to be sorry you voted for [Obama]"
"...every time I see him he goes, "You are going to be sorry you voted for [Obama]"
Based on Obama's gaul-awful first proposed budget, your dad's remarks were prescient. That budget is awful on several levels. At some point, I'm going to strike up a new thread dedicated to the awfulness of that budget. Good intentions, bad timing.
And I voted for Obama.
Obama's budget is almost exactly what I expected. It very closely reflects all the major themes of the his campaign.
I'll admit that I like that he proposes to put DOD back on budget like all the rest of the federal agencies but a bit more financial austerity is called for. Also, I'm so happy that he's willing to repeal "farm subsidies" for agribusinesses earning over $500k.
But raising taxes on individual taxpayers earning over $250k a year is a mistake. They're the very ones with the financial wherewithal to get the economy back on track. Likewise, setting aside $700B on the "off chance" that the banks might need another handout is so wrong on so many levels. My credit union is doing just fine because its operators didn't dare dabble in esoteric financial products that weren't worth the paper they're printed on.
Put the insolvent banks out of their misery!!! Keeping them on life support at taxpayer expense is only prolonging the inevitable.

PS:
madbrian--the budget was premised upon the economy growing in FY2010 but the economy experienced a major "contraction" this FY so we're starting out in the hole. This is not the ideal time for "deficit spending" especially considering that Obama hammered Bush for it while out stumping on the campaign trail. I'll take broken campaign promises if it prevents this nation from slipping into 2nd world status.

This thread is COVERED in Ann Coulter and Republican ads!!
"But raising taxes on individual taxpayers earning over $250k a year is a mistake. They're the very ones with the financial wherewithal to get the economy back on track."
Again, this is exactly what Obama campaigned on. And your second sentence above is completely contrary to recent history. Those folks have had lower taxes for years; how's it working out so far? Trickle down isn't working.
"Again, this is exactly what Obama campaigned on. And your second sentence above is completely contrary to recent history."
I added a postscript which should clarify my position. Bush simply didn't know what he was doing but I expect a bit more flexibility from Obama.
It seems that he made a concession where national health care is concerned. His team earmarked a "down payment" for national health care because the revenues just are not there yet to pull it off.
I'm all for the health care reform Obama seeks but the war debts must be dealt with first Folks are starting to whisper that the troops removed from Iraq will be sent to Afghanistan which is a war many military experts claim is "unwinnable".
We're in the midst of a worldwide recession, engaged in two major military campaigns and need to prop up the industry which creates the 2nd largest number of jobs in the nation, that is the auto industry. We're taking on too much reform too soon.
"What I like best about Rush is how mad he makes prissy little liberals."
Not all of his detractors fit that bill. Many fiscal conservatives, including Libertarians like me, find him hypocritical and repugnant. Be careful how you paint folks with broad stokes!
Then again, why am I feeding an Internet troll.

individual taxpayers? yeah. actually it's families making $250k+ as of 2011. at which time inflation will have made that worth about $150-175k.
are you rich?
"Folks are starting to whisper that the troops removed from Iraq will be sent to Afghanistan which is a war many military experts claim is 'unwinnable'."
It loathes me to acknowledge Nancy Pelosi in a positive way, but in her interview with Rachel Maddow the other, her ideas with respect to Afghanistan seemed pretty sharp. It can't be addressed the same way Iraq was (contrary to McCain's comments during the campaign). It requires a combined approach including the military as well as diplomacy from a regional perspective, which INCLUDES Iran.
To an extent, I agree with Limbaugh's ideas, not how he words them, but some of their basic concepts.
How many liberals actually cheered for George Bush? Whether they liked him or not was a different story, but how many of them outright said they hope he doesn't fail? Only a select few. The majority criticized Bush and did not do anything remotely positive towards his presidency. They just bitched.
Now conservatives are doing the same thing to Obama, and suddenly it's cause for alarm? It's just media politics. No one seemed to care about liberal remarks when Bush was in office.
Just another politician and his posse. It works both ways.
