To an extent, I agree with Limbaugh's ideas, not how he words them, but some of their basic concepts.
How many liberals actually cheered for George Bush? Whether they liked him or not was a different story, but how many of them outright said they hope he doesn't fail? Only a select few. The majority criticized Bush and did not do anything remotely positive towards his presidency. They just bitched.
Now conservatives are doing the same thing to Obama, and suddenly it's cause for alarm? It's just media politics. No one seemed to care about liberal remarks when Bush was in office.
Just another politician and his posse. It works both ways.
Bush had almost unlimited goodwill from virtually every American following 9/11, and he totally blew it. Furthermore, I don't recall a liberal PAC, attended by every potential presidential candidate, having a blowhard like Olbermann as their keynote speaker. Also, I don't remember any Democratic members of Congress apologizing to an Olbermann, or defending him on political programs.
"individual taxpayers? yeah. actually it's families making $250k+ as of 2011."
Good catch Papa! I live in MD's Montgomery County where you'd better have a combined household income >$250k if you expect to avoid the soup line. Most state governors will sing the praises of Obama's proposed budget because they're in line for a handout via the recently enacted Stimulus Package. What should come as no real surprise is that they'll be back at the trough 12 months from now. See the linked article re:MD's next budget crisis.
madbrian--your last post was spot on. Both sides of the aisle gave Bush a license to spend and spend he did, on mercenaries and their agents in Iraq. At least under Obama we'll finally get a true accounting of the cost of the Iraq & Afghanistan campaigns, instead of some supplemental b/s.
MD says to Obama "gimme, gimme, gimme"
To return to the issue of the taxes for families earning >$250k, it's important to remember that Obama's budget is allowing them to expire on 1/1/2011. He's not calling for the taxes to be increased immediately. By then, the economy should at least be better than it is now. This is a change from what he campaigned on, and does show some consideration against raising taxes in the middle of a recession.
Madbrian, it didn't matter if he had unlimited goodwill and he totally blew it, the fact of the matter is that many liberals (and I'm sure conservatives too) hoped he failed after he messed up. It doesn't matter when they said it, they still hoped he failed and they never should have.
Why is that any different when Obama is president? Sudddenly hoping he fails is not the same as hoping Bush failed?
As for the PAC, it means nothing. It's just one way of criticising. It doesn't matter where the criticism is said, or in front of whom, it's still criticism. Who cares if people defend Limbaugh? If they agree with him or want to excuse his actions, so what? It's their choice. Was it wrong for media stations to defend Obama everytime a certain blip appeared on his campaign? They didn't defend Palin and McCain. In fact, they almost hid and excused every little conflict during Obama and Biden's campaign, and blew McCain and Palin's out of proportion. But no one complained that the media did that.
I have no intention of ever hoping Obama fails. I hope he succeeds immensely. But I don't see how someone hoping Obama fails is the worst thing imaginable, when it was almost taboo not to say it about Bush.
Olbermann & Garofalopagus talk Limbaugh & Women
Why does that dumbass WANT Obama to fail? So he can play the "I told you so" if the economy does implode?
Precisely. He's trying to revive "Rush is right".
Seems like Limbaugh and Steele are airing their differences in the press:

And, like clockwork, the Chairman of the Republican National Committee has issued an apology to Rush Limbaugh:

Wow.
"A man who is aggressive and bombastic, cutting and sarcastic, who dismisses the concerned citizens in network news focus groups as “losers.” With his private plane and his cigars, his history of drug dependency and his personal bulk, not to mention his tangled marital history, Rush is a walking stereotype of self-indulgence – exactly the image that Barack Obama most wants to affix to our philosophy and our party. And we’re cooperating! Those images of crowds of CPACers cheering Rush’s every rancorous word – we’ll be seeing them rebroadcast for a long time.
Rush knows what he is doing. The worse conservatives do, the more important Rush becomes as leader of the ardent remnant. The better conservatives succeed, the more we become a broad national governing coalition, the more Rush will be sidelined." - David Frum

Mr. Steele, who on Saturday called Mr. Limbaugh's nationally syndicated show "incendiary" and "ugly," made an abrupt about-face Monday.
"I respect Rush Limbaugh. He is a national conservative leader, and in no way do I want to diminish his voice," said Mr. Steele in a statement.
Rush was right!
A radio entertainer is the head of the GOP. A radio entertainer who went deaf due to his drug abuse. Rush the junkie is a hypocrite and the GOP turn to him for guidance. Its pathetic and sad.No wonder they want Obama to fail.

Unofficial party leader? Ask Michael Steele, I guess. He's the one who had to rush to apologize for what he said about him to DL Hughley.
For the life of me I will never understand why the GOP continues to capitulate and cowtow to Limbaugh.

14 million listeners a week is why.
Still, it was the Game Show Host Mormon dude who won the straw poll, so maybe he's really the leader?
he won it last time too. again in convincing fashion by 6 points over jindal and 7 points over a tie between sarah palin and ron paul.
and my newtie down in 3rd with 10%
Poor Charlie Crist. He goes through the charade of marrying that girl and still can't even pass two pablum governors and a former drag queen in the poll.
well, c'mon, cal, he did publicly support the stimulus package which would be the democrat equivalent of having campaigned for the war before going to speak at yearly kos.
Papa, it's futile to deny folks their enjoyment at this. The Dems/Liberals do not have an equivalent to Limbaugh. Olbermann is a blowhard, but he's on a par with O'Reilly. Hannity and Coulter are a level above them, and Limbaugh is in a league of his own. To see Republican congressmen, then the chair of the RNC, apologizing to Limbaugh provides easy chuckles. Then Jindal went on Larry King and said he was glad that Steele apologized. The Dems are doing everything they can to make Limbaugh the face of the entire Republican party, and it seems like the Republicans are happily cooperating.
