While everyone is up-in-arms about Akin and whichever GOP cronie that reveals their disgusting opinions of rape, the potential VP's own statements go ignored.
Who cares about rape victims when fetuses are at risk?!
...but no one's covering this one.
Let's not forget about the fathers (rapists) rights to the child in most states.
Let's face it, these women are asking for it.

I'm not defending Ryan, but what he said wasn't really that incendiary. He didn't say, "Oh, rape? That's just another way to conceive." He said that no matter how a woman conceives, she doesn't have the right to an abortion. THAT'S the troubling part.
I think you should remove the "just" from the title. Like the HuffPo guy's insistence that what Ryan was saying was RAPE = "METHOD OF CONCEPTION," (scarycaps and all!) I think it implies something that's really not there. I mean, if the HuffPO gay wants to be really effing pedantic about it, when you're talking about rape in the context of talking about abortion, which is what we're doing, that hypothetical rape hypothetically does equal a hypothetical conception.
Also, in case there's an question about it, I'm rabidly pro-choice. I believe in what the Right also call ABORTION ON DEMAND. You want an abortion, get an abortion. I don't believe that just because someone was raped that makes her abortion more valid or "acceptable" than someone who just wanted one because she didn't want to be pregnant.

I don't get the big deal. People are flipping out over that asshat saying a woman can't get pregnant from a legitimate rape and this guy is saying the opposite. Literally, isn't he correct? Isn't conception when an egg meets a sperm? Conception can happen as a result of sex, insemination, in-vitro fertilization or something else I am sure scientists aren't telling us about yet. It can also happen as a result of rape. He didn't say she was asking for it or wanted it or that she should consider a rape pregnancy the cherry on top of her rotten sundae, like Santorum did. He was just saying that it's another way pregnancy can occur. What he thinks a woman should be able to do AFTER that fact is a different story.

Being kidnapped, stuffed in the trunk of a car, driven 200 miles, and dumped in the middle of the desert is a "method of going on vacation."
There's an awful lot to get upset about in this election, but I don't think this sound bite is one of them.
I feel like the Left is starting to grasp at straws for things to get mad at the Right about which is dangerous.

That's so weak an analogy it's not an analogy at all.

I'm sick of abortion analogies. I'm sick of "rape is like." I'm sick of it all.
The RNC wants a constitutional amendment to ban abortion- always. The Dems are happy with our current situation, as laid down by Roe V. Wade and honed by decades of Republican activism. It says a lot about our current situation that Phyllis's position is unrepresented. It's not a choice between abortions or not- it's a choice of less abortions or no abortions. We don't need to dramatize the situation - it's bad enough already.
