Under the new law, those small businesses will be eligible for tax deductions to help them pay for the coverage.

Yes, taxes on small businesses will actually go DOWN.

Wow, I am glad I asked- for two Joes we sure come from totally different places. I had no idea anyone could get coverage for $100 a month anywhere. My employer provided coverage costs me about 3X that- and costs them about the same. If I couldn't work I would be screwed. I went through a year period of unemployment in 2001-2002 that cost me over $3,000 in health insurance premiums. But I have a heart condition- if I hadn't maintained that coverage I'd never be able to buy insurance on my own if needed.

I get that you resent "free" coverage for illegal immigrants and I'm not going to turn you around- but you do realize this bill changes nothing abut their situation, right?

And my boyfriend was in the situation of not having insurance and needing a doctor. we got turned away from a free clinic- well, they said we could try again in 2 weeks. We went to a local hospital and got about 4 minutes of attention from a doctor who gave him a $600 prescription and sent us a bill for well over $1,000 which we got dunned for daily till we could pay it off. THAT'S what people are talking about when they say "Free health care for illegals": Patch 'em up and get them out on the street.

I'm pretty sure what Broadway Joe was saying was "I got mine."

Also, that picture romantico posted looks photoshopped to me.

Lots of people my age have no idea how affordable health care is because they do 0 research. Yet they go out and buy fancy ipods, ipads and whatever other stupid expensive gadgets comes out on the market.

But that's another whole issue.

I know the illegal immigrants have nothing to do with this bill but they are still a big problem and hospitals end up spending billions of dollars on these people who shouldn't even be in our country.

I know this bill will help certain people and that's all fine and dandy but there are 2,000+ pages of this bill that I'm sure barely anyone has read on here. Only time will tell how this really affects our country but I think some people who are celebrating this "victory" right now might change their tune in a few years.

"I'm pretty sure what Broadway Joe was saying was "I got mine.""

Yeah, paying 100 bucks a month that I personally pay for(not an employer paying for it) is really "getting mine"

If people can't afford that then they have bigger issues to worry about. I bet most people on this forum have monthly cell phone bills that are larger then that.

It's great that you are able to get such low coverage, but not everyone is as lucky as you. Some people, myself included, deal with the nightmare of preexisting conditions. I'm 37 and I've survived cancer twice. I lost my job the second time I was diagnosed and was paying over five hundred a month in COBRA because if go without coverage for even a second, it could be all over for me. Even with insurance, I've spent tens of thousands out of pocket on my care. I just switched to a personal plan that costs me over four hundred a month. I truly hope that now that "Obamacare" is the law of the land, I and others will be able to find affordable, non-bankrupting care just for the privilege of not dying.

For what it's worth, I don't have an ipad and my monthly cell phone bill is 23 bucks.

And I was born in the US.

Sarah Palin has offered her "official" reposnse:

Thank you, SCOTUS. This Obamacare ruling fires up the troops as America’s eyes are opened! Thank God.

This proves to be such an unsettling time in America as we undergo the fundamental transformation that Barack Obama promised he would do to us if elected. Obamacare was dealt in deception and confusion by flooding the public with an overwhelming amount of conflicting “rationale” via thousands of pages of unread legislative detail, which is the radical left’s M.O. Obama promised the American people this wasn’t a tax and that he’d never raise taxes on anyone making less than $250,000. We now see that this is the largest tax increase in history. It will slam every business owner and every one of the 50% of Americans who currently pay their taxes. The other 50% are being deceived if they think they’re going to get a free ride – because Medicaid is broke. Recipients of Obama’s “free health care” will have fewer choices and less accessibility. Trust me – this much more expensive health care WILL be rationed; to claim otherwise defies all economic and common sense.

We will not retreat on this. A newly elected legislative branch is key to defending our Republic and fundamentally restoring all that is good in America.

SCOTUS now rules this is a tax? Well, Congress has the ability to create taxes – and also has the ability to rescind them. Upon their return from the July recess, Congress should act immediately to repeal this terrible new tax on the American people, and indeed they must repeal all of Obamacare. This is the most brazen and sweeping new tax and government overreach imposed on us. We the People did not ask for this tax, we do not want this tax, and we can’t afford this tax. This is not an answer to America’s health care challenges.

It’s time, again, for patriotic Americans to rise up to protest this obvious infringement on our economic and personal freedom. November is just around the corner. Today, the Supreme Court issued their ruling on Obamacare. In November, We the People will issue ours.

- Sarah Palin

This is not an answer to America’s health care challenges.

This raises the question, then what IS the answer? I'm afraid, if asked, though, her answer would just be a word salad about free markets and state's rights.

I'm sorry that you had to go through all that. Did you always have insurance through work? I only ask because I fully admit I don't know everything so I'm asking these questions with respect and I like to learn more.

Like for example if someone gets cancer under this new health care, the insurance companies are still only going to cover some of the treatment and people still won't be able to pay for all of the treatments. If I'm wrong please correct me.

I also don't have an ipad and my cell phone is 25 bucks a month but I'm sure with are in the vast minority when it comes to that. It does seem like tons and tons of people don't have their priorities straight when it comes to their finances. Updated On: 6/28/12 at 03:34 PM

Joe, how do you see this law changing YOUR circumstances?

I am glad you have insurance- truly I don't think anyone should be without. I was of mixed emotions when this "mandate" became part of the bill but eventually I came to the ideas that I DO think everyone needs to have insurance- even healthy young folks like you- because, really who knows?

And Joey, that post is jaw dropping.

Broadway Joe, I had insurance through work up until 18 months ago when I lost my job. I had to leave where I was living to go to another state for treatment and since then I've been paying the COBRA premiums, but those will expiring in a few days. Even with the Health Care act as it is, pre-existing conditions are not yet exempt, which is why it took me about two months to find a plan that would provide what I needed and that I could remotely afford.

The stupidest response so far:

"Echoing concerns over the precedent was the Heartland Institute, a Chicago-based conservative free-market think tank. Its experts said Thursday that there are a lot of things that government would love to require you to buy.

"The federal government owns major stakes in Chrysler and General Motors. Might the government some day require Americans to buy new cars or pay a penalty – I'm sorry, a tax – if we don't do it? Under this ruling we may someday find out," said budget and tax policy research fellow Steve Stanek"

Honestly, I don't know yet and I don't think we will truly know how it will affect everyone until we get a year or so of it being enforced.

In the end I still see the middle class footing the bill for the people who can't afford to pay for health insurance and then in turn don't pay the fines because they can't afford those either. How are they going to enforce this? They will start by charging these people interest that again they won't be able to pay. So then what? Start throwing people into jail?

I ask these questions because I truly don't know the answer and everywhere I read it doesn't mention it.

I think too many people get caught up in the Republican vs Democrat nonsense that has plagued this country for far too many years and just ends up leading to no progress being made by either party.

I've been on a few message boards today reading about the reactions on the SCOTUS Decision. One thing I keep seeing and must ask.

How does Romney get away with this? He publicly denounce ACA when he was the architect of the Massachusetts plan and praised it to high heaven just 6 years ago? And why isn't he questioned about his condemnation of the mandate as just bad policy when this too was his inspiration when Mass Governor? What's up with the national media when they fail to challenge him on this?

Hopefully Obama will remind the American people of this and ask Romney about it during the debates.

"I can understand the poor and irresponsible but why illegal aliens though? They are already free loading and costing us tons of money and in the long run it affects the middle class the most and I assume the majority of us on this board are in the middle class."

How do you consider doing backbreaking work (that Americans won't do) for slave wages free loading?

Because his brain is an Etch-A-Sketch, and he obviously has shaken baby syndrome...

"How do you consider doing backbreaking work (that Americans won't do) for slave wages free loading?"

Because the majority of them don't pay taxes. A lot of them also receive free health care benefits, free housing assistance and free food stamp benefits.

We need to be more worried about our own people then these people who get into this country illegally.

I tell my Republican friends that I am SO GLAD they picked a nominee who has identical beliefs to Obama, who bragged he was more liberal than Teddy Kennedy instead of some right-winger. Makes them INSANE.

Excellent point Reg. I'd advise everyone to try to make friends with at least one illegal. There are all sorts of issues they face that I had NEVER thought of- like paying into a SS system that they will never see a check from.

And yes I know, if they don't like it they shouldn't be here. I wish someone could tell me what immigration law was like in the late 19/early 20th century. Cause I'd love to know how all the illiterate Bohemians that were are my ancestors got here.

It's also important to remember that there are a number of sectors of the US economy that actually depend on undocumented workers.

It's not just a one-way street.

But we're getting a bit off topic. Just wanted to point out that the issue is much more complicated than just freeloading aliens.

and there is a good chance that my generation and the younger ones then me may not even see any money returned from Social Security if it runs out and we pay into it legally.
